Swinburne's new Flexible Degree Structure adds flexibility to most of our undergraduate degrees. We've broken down the traditional academic barriers, allowing you to tailor your degree and add either depth or breadth to your education through your choice of professional majors, co-majors and minors.  Minors encompass four units of study totaling 50 credit points. You can select a minor from a range of disciplines and  skill levels, subject to program prescriptions and timetabling availability.

Commerce/Business Minors

Accounting for Non Commerce Students minor
This minor is only available to students who are not enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce program. Students who complete this minor will be exposed to the rudiments of accounting and finance. Upon completion of these minor, students will have the knowledge and skills to generate and interpret basic accounting information.

Leadership Minor
This minor presents an overview of the leadership issues in an organisation. Students will gain basic knowledge of human behaviour, group dynamics, and leadership, and how these affect organisational processes. Students completing this Minor will be able to facilitate the leadership process in an organisation.

This minor gives students an overview of factors driving individual and group behaviour within organisations. International Studies Minor
This minor introduces students to the business environment and practices in Southeast Asia. It includes a study tour of 2 weeks’ duration to some business organisations in this region. Students will develop an understanding of the economic and cultural realities in this region and learn to work effectively with business organisations in this region.

Science Minors

Consumer Chemistry Minor
Chemistry is part of everything around you; from medicine and food production to agriculture chemicals, cleaning products and environmental protection. Thisminor is especially relevant to students in Sarawak with the upcoming and implementation of SCORE and the largest halal food hub in the country. Subjects taught have an applied and consumer and food orientated approach and this minor will enhance your degree by having practical experience in real world examples of chemistry in action.

Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology Minor
For students who are interested in real-world applications of biotechnology in the areas of microbial, medical and aquatic biotechnology suitable. Malaysia is recognised as one of 12 mega-diversity countries in the world and this rich biodiversity holds an enormous potential of biotechnological discoveries (such as new medicine) and also to transform the country’s agricultural and industrial systems and to contribute to economic growth. Subjects taught are delivered in collaboration with local industry partners and students can actively explore future working places and make contacts during the studies. The ability to apply technology to real work examples is of great importance to prospective employers and this minor is designed to do just that.
