This is a new program offered from 2010. Current students in Bachelor of Business (Accounting and Finance) may have the option of either completing their existing degree or transferring to this new degree program.

Accounting and finance share many common themes relating to the management of an individual’s or business’s wealth. Your studies will introduce the concepts of accounting, management, statistics, microeconomics, business law and information systems. You will be well-equipped to enter the global, challenging and dynamic industries of accounting, banking and finance.

 

In addition to the university’s graduate attributes, Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) graduates will be:

  • comprehensively knowledgeable about accounting and finance appropriate for entry-level positions in the accounting and finance fields
  • able to evaluate the financial position of an organisation through the examination of financial statements and non-financial data
  • able to demonstrate an understanding of the principles of accounting and apply these accurately and correctly
  • strong analytical problem solvers who are able to operate within an ethical framework
  • excellent communicators in both written and verbal contexts
  • adaptable and able to implement principles into a range of different contexts globally
  • able to satisfy the academic admission requirements for accounting professional bodies

Students are expected to complete a total of 24 units of study (300 credit points) plus one not-for-credit unit, HBG0004 Careers in the Curriculum.

The Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) does not include any co-majors, minors or electives.





Accounting and finance are highly employable fields. You may find employment with large or small companies, private practices, banks and government-owned entities as graduate accountant, account manager, auditor, fund accounting officer and taxation agent, merchant banker, corporate treasurer, investment banker, import and export manager, and financial adviser.

Professional recognition

Graduates are eligible to apply for membership with CPA Australia, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia (ICAA), the National Institute of Accountants (NIA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
