This degree will replace the Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management) from 2010. Current students may have the option of either completing their existing degree or transferring to the new degree name.

Human resource management is the managing and coordination of the productive use of people to achieve business objectives. Human resource management includes: the recruitment and selection of staff members, management of employee relations, training and development of staff, job evaluation, change management, and occupational health and safety.

Swinburne's Bachelor of Commerce (Human Resource Management) is a vocationally oriented degree designed to equip students with the management skills and human behavioural knowledge for a career in human resource management. It is designed to assist in the intellectual, social and personal development of the student as preparation for entrance to a range of specialist and generalist business professions.

In addition to the university’s graduate attributes, graduates of the Bachelor of Commerce (Human Resource Management) will be knowledgeable about the importance of law and government regulation in a business or commercial environment.

For completion of the Bachelor of Commerce (Human Resource Management) students are required to complete a total of 24 units of study (300 credit points) consisting of; 
  • A Human Resource Management professional major consisting of 16 units (200 credit points); and
  • Eight (8) additional units that can be undertaken either as a co-major (8 units), or two minors (8 units each); and
  • The not-for-credit unit, HBG0004 Careers in the Curriculum

Studies in Human Resource Management (HRM) provide students with the interpersonal and communication skills necessary for any HRM-related position within an organisation. Students also acquire the managerial and general administrative skills necessary to work in any business environment.
