This program has five majors or streams:

  • Accounting
  • Information Systems
  • Management
  • Marketing
  • Visual Communication

This program is designed to develop students as employable knowledge workers in the world of business. Students gain a broad business education that is further enhanced with studies in the areas of accounting, management, marketing, visual communication and information systems.

The program balances theory and practice, and stresses on the instillation of values, ethics and attitudes to enable graduates to demonstrate knowledge and comprehension on fundamental principles of their chosen field of study, use the knowledge and comprehension through methods that indicate professionalism in employment, attain team and interpersonal skills appropriate to employment, become responsible members of society and use independent learning skills in further education.

 

All students are required to complete eight core and 16 stream units for a total of 24 units.

Pathways and articulation

If the student wishes to further their tertiary study, the attainment of this qualification will provide students with a pathway into Swinburne’s Bachelor of Commerce, Design or Information and Communication Technology programs.

 


Diploma of Business graduates majoring in Accounting could be employed or self-employed in the area of accounting and financial management.

Diploma of Business graduates majoring in Management could be employed or self-employed in a wide range of fields for example in business management, human resources, marketing and sales management, international trade and manufacturing management.

Diploma of Business graduates majoring Marketing are well poised to move directly into employment, pursuing job roles across a variety of different industry sectors with focus in sales and marketing management. Possible careers relevant to this qualification include product development, customer service, sales and marketing, advertising and promotion, communication and market research.

Diploma of Business graduates majoring in Visual Communications could be employed or self-employed in a wide range of fields in business, marketing, advertising and design. Graduates will be able to work as marketing designers, advertising officers/executives, junior graphic designer, web designer and multimedia designers.
 
Diploma of Business graduates majoring in Information Systems could be employed or self-employed in a wide range of fields in business and IT. Graduates will be able to work in systems analysis and design, technical programming, IT project management, and web application programming.
