This program has two majors or streams:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

This program equips the students with the knowledge and employability skills required for a career in civil engineering and mechanical engineering industries. It prepares students to face the challenges of the ever-changing workplace by developing their ability to acquire new skills and knowledge.

 

The Diploma of Engineering consists of a total of 32 units with a combination of theoretical and practical exposure (excluding the MPW units). The program has two different streams - civil and mechanical.

Engineering Surveying or Topographical Engineering

For Mechanical Engineering stream,
Instrumentation and Measurements.

Choose one elective:
Thermodynamics or Thermodynamics 1

 

Year 3
Workplace Communication Skills

For Civil Engineering Stream
Reinforced Concrete Design; Structural Steel Design; Project & Construction Management;
Civil Engineering Laboratory 1 & 2; Geomechanics & Geotechnical Engineering; Research Project.

Choose one set of three electives from the following two sets:
Hydrology & Water Resources Engineering; Environmental Engineering; Road & Transport Engineering.
or
Sustainable Design; Road Engineering; Urban Water Resources.

For Mechanical Engineering Stream,
Strength of Material; Introduction to Mechatronics; Electrical Machines; System Modeling and Control; Manufacturing Technology; Mechanical Engineering Design; Design Project

Choose one set of three electives from the following two sets:
Mechanics of Machine; Engineering Management; Computer Aided Drafting.
or
Machine Dynamics 1; Computer Aided Engineering; Engineering Management 1.

 


Graduates are equipped for careers as technical officers performing operation, planning, analysis and supervision in relevant industries. The program is also a pathway to one of Swinburne’s engineering degree programs.
