Five renown and young entrepreneurs will share insights on their journey to the boardroom. Moderated by Datuk (Dr) Philip Ting, Swinburne Sarawak Council and Board member, the entrepreneurs will reveal experiences covering issues on how to be a successful entrepreneur and some of the pitfalls along the journey.

Dato’ Lion Peh

 

 

Dato’ Lion Peh was the Chief Executive Officer of Ozura Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nextnation Communication Bhd, developer of mobile games and mobile gaming platform. Nextnation is listed in MESDAQ and is the largest mobile application provider in Malaysia.

He was also the former Director and Senior Vice President of Exticom Sdn Bhd, a  VoIP service provider in Malaysia. Experienced in the ICT industry, he was involved in various research and development programs including Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) technology.

Dato’ Peh is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Techninier Sdn Bhd and sits on the board of several companies. He is instrumental in leading Techninier to win the GoMobile Innovative Award in 2012. Techninier was also the finalist in Meffy Award and World Communication Award in 2011.

Hugh Mason

 

 

Hugh co-founded JFDI.Asia. In its first three years, he’d turned an investment of $1m into a $60m startup portfolio by teaching disciplined entrepreneurship.

Hugh's physics degree was sponsored by GEC-Marconi Research, where he worked on projects ranging from digital radar to radio propagation and home automation. Afterwards Hugh trained as a TV producer-director with the BBC's primetime science show, Tomorrow's World. He went on to found Narrateo, a TV production company that won a British Academy Award nomination and made over 150 documentaries for Discovery Channel, National Geographic.

In 2001, Hugh co-founded Pembridge Partners which provided investment and advice to over 300 marketing, media and technology companies.
Alongside work Hugh co-wrote his first book, Brainfruit: Turning Creativity into Cash from East to West, published by McGraw Hill. He also co- founded the Undergraduate Ambassadors Scheme, a successful UK education charity, with Simon Singh MBE.

Hugh has taught as an Adjunct Professor at National University of Singapore and New York University and is an advisory board member at the Institute for Infocomm Research.

Isabel Kow

 

 

Isabel Kow is the Managing Director of Comtec Solar International (M) Sdn Bhd, a RM 1.2 billion wafer manufacturing plant in Kuching with its headquarters located in Shanghai and listed in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, which will be one of the world's largest N type solar wafer manufacturing plant. She holds a Bachelor of Technology Industry from Universiti Sains Malaysia.

Before assuming the position of Managing Director at Comtec, Isabel was the President of EQ Solar, a subsidiary of Zhejiang Glass (listed in Hong Kong) in Hangzhou, China. She was also the Vice President of Hareon Solar Technology CO. Ltd (listed in China) in Jiangsu, China; Vice President of Guangyu Group, China; Managing Director of Guangxi Seagull Investment in Nanning and was the Marketing Director of Vitamax, Hai-O Group for both China and Malaysia.

John Jong

 

 

John Jong is a fervent proponent of multidisciplinary collaboration. As one of 3 senior executives at Thinkscape Design Group, in which he is the original founder, John works with clients, partners and colleagues to bring human-centric, socially significant new products, services and experiences to the market. John has led Thinkscape to numerous industry awards and is a noted conference speaker and contributor of influential opinion pieces.

Throughout his 15 years of practice partnering with clients such as Petronas, Axiata and Sime Darby, John has led projects ranging from global corporate brand identity, residential and commercial architecture, retail chain stores to marketing communications, information design, launching and implementation, and many more. He has also developed the proprietary tools and processes for successful brand management.

As the MD & Group Design Director, John is responsible for the orchestration of strategic, business and design.

Rhoda Yap

 

 

Rhoda is the Managing Director and Chief Trainer of Metamorphic Training. Prior to this, Rhoda was the Chief Executive Officer of BritishIndia, a leading Asian lifestyle brand. Before that, she was based in the US where she had a career with McKinsey & Co, serving Fortune 50 clients. While in New York, she also spent time at JPMorgan Chase Investment Bank in their Strategy Unit. Additionally Rhoda was called to the Bar of England and Wales and practiced law (litigation and commercial) at Reddi & Co Advocates at the beginning of her professional career. Today, Rhoda follows her passion for education and training.

Rhoda holds an LLB (Hons) from King’s College London and an MBA from Cornell University, where she was awarded a scholarship and fellowship.
