June 2006

  • Presentation at SCOReD 2006

27 to 28 June 2006: Edwin Chen, student member of iSECURES and an engineering student at Swinburne, presented a paper on "Analysis of IPv6 Communication Network Using Simulation" at the 4th IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD) 2006 Conference in Shah Alam, Malaysia.

15 to 19 January 2006: Patrick Then presented a paper on "Support Vector Machine as Digital Watermark Detector" at the IS&T/SPIE Electronic Imaging conference in San Jose, California, USA.

    28 to 30 December 2005: Victor Chee presented a paper "Security Considerations in the Design of Wireless Networks" at the International Conference on Wireless Networking and Mobile Computing (ICWNMC '05), in Chennai, India.

    12 to 15 December 2005: Antionette Goh, student member of iSECURES, Raphael Phan and Patrick Then respectively presented papers "On the Security of a Pay-TV Scheme of ICON 2001", "On the Insecurity of the Microsoft Research Conference Management Tool (MSRCMT) System" and "Perceiving Digital Watermark Detection as Image Classification Problem using Support Vector Machine" at the International Conference on IT in Asia (CITA '05), in Kuching, Malaysia. Patrick won a Best Paper Award.

    1 to 2 December 2005: Grace Ting presented a paper "Ambiguity Attacks on the Ganic-Eskicioglu Robust DWT-SVD Image Watermarking Scheme" at the International Conference on Information Security & Cryptology (ICISC '05), in Seoul, Korea.
     

November 2005

  • Presentation at IEEE ICON 2005

16 to 19 November 2005: Biju Issac presented two papers - "The Art of War Driving and Security Threats - A Malaysian Case Study" and "Secure Unicast Address Resolution Protocol (S-UARP) By Extending DHCP" at the IEEE International Conference on Networks (ICON 2005) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Another paper was also presented by Frankie Chan, a former student trainee of iSECURES, entitled - "Analysis of IEEE 802.11b Wireless Security For University Wireless LAN Design".

15 to 17 November 2005: Lawan Mohammed presented a paper - "DoS Attacks and Defense Mechanisms in Wireless Networks" at the IEE Mobility Conference 2005 (Mobility 2005), in Guangzhou, China.

September 2005

28 to 30 September 2005: Raphael Phan presented his papers "Extended Slide Attacks Revisited: Realigning Slides on DES" and "New Multiset Attacks on Rijndael with Large Blocks" at the Mycrypt 2005 conference in KL, Malaysia.

  • Invited Talk at e-Secure Malaysia 2005

30 September 2005: Raphael Phan gave an invited talk "Security Engineering: Doing it Right at All Levels" at the e-Secure Malaysia 2005 conference in KL, Malaysia.

20 to 23 September 2005: Gary Yeo, student member of iSECURES and final year engineering student at Swinburne, presented his paper "On the Security of the WinRAR Encryption Method" at the Information Security Conference (ISC 2005) in Singapore.

May 2005

9 to 12 May 2005: Antionette Goh, student member of iSECURES and final year engineering student at Swinburne, presented her poster paper "Attacks on a Key Distribution Scheme for Digital TV proposed at ICON 2001" at the International Conference on Computational Sciences & Its Applications (ICCSA 2005) in Suntec City, Singapore.

December 2004

  • Invited Talk at NCC 2004

16 December 2004: Raphael gave an invited talk on "Engineering Secure Systems" at the National Conference in Cryptology (NCC 2004) organized by the Institute for Mathematical Research, UPM.

  • Invited Lecture at Institute for Mathematical Research, UPM

14 to 15 December 2004: Raphael gave an invited lecture on "Mini Advanced Encryption Standard: Design & Cryptanalysis" as part of the Lecture Series on Cryptology & Applications organized by the Institute for Mathematical Research, UPM.

  • Hosting Asiacrypt 2007

6 December 2004: iSECURES won the bid for Malaysia in general (and Swinburne in particular) to host the Asiacrypt 2007 in Kuching.  The bidding presentation was done at the Asiacrypt 2004 conference held in Jeju Island, Korea.  This would be the first time that Asiacrypt is ever held in Malaysia.

5 to 9 December 2004: Raphael presented two of his research results at the rump session of the Asiacrypt 2004 conference.

November 2004

  • Visit by Prof. Ingemar Cox (UCL, London)

27 November to 3 December 2004: Swinburne hosted a visit by Prof. Ingemar Cox of University College London.  Prof. Ingemar was visiting with the iSECURES Lab on the area of digital watermarking.  Besides discussions on potential collaborations and open problems in the area, he also gave a public seminar at Swinburne on "Content-based Image Retrieval Systems".

  • Presentation at IEEE ICON 2004

16 to 19 November 2004: Ang Mei Chiun, student member of iSECURES and also final year engineering student at Swinburne, presented her paper at the IEEE International Conference on Networks (ICON 2004) in Singapore.

  • Visit by NISER

5 November 2004: A team from the National ICT Security & Response Centre (NISER) visited to discuss the co-organization of the International Conference on Cryptology in Malaysia (Mycrypt 2005) to be held in KL from 28 September to 1 October.  Zahri Yunos, Manager of NISER, also gave a public seminar on "Protection of Malaysian Cyberpace: An Agenda for Action".

September 2004

  • Research Assistants from MMU on Industrial Training

6 September 2004: iSECURES hosted 6 MMU final year engineering students for their industrial training from 6 September to 11 December 2004.  The students were taken in as research assistants, to work on short-term research projects namely "Cryptanalysis Toolbox", "Digital Watermarking Toolbox" and "Wireless Security Testbed".  iSECURES members assigned to supervise them were Dr. Dennis, Biju, Raphael, Tommy and Grace.

  • Presentation at WWCS 2004

29 June to 2 July 2004: Dr. Lawan presented his research "Online Distance Learning - A guide to Security Modeling Approach" at the International Conference on Work with Computing Systems 2004.

February 2004

  • Presentation at RSA Conference 2004

23 to 27 February 2004: Raphael presented his research "Related-key Attacks on Triple-DES and DESX Variants" in the Cryptographers' Track of the RSA 2004 conference in San Francisco.

January 2004

  • MoU with iVEST

12 January 2004: Swinburne signed an MoU with iVEST, a strategic business unit of MIMOS Berhad, covering R&D collaborations between iVEST and iSECURES on iVEST-related areas of information security and MyKAD PKI.  The iVEST delegation was led by Mr. Rafee Yusoff, Vice President for Business Venture, and graced by Ms. Lee Hooi Teck, Director of iVEST.
