The Library Office can be contacted on 082-260741/260845 and contact information for specific Library Unit, including telephone number and e-mail addresses, is given here.
How do I join the Library?
Any a full-time & part-time staff; currently enrolled full-time & part-time student at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus can be a member of the library.
Do I need a library card?
You don’t need a library card. Only your Swinburne Student ID Card is valid in the library.
What should I do if I've forgot my Libr@ryNet username & password?
You can call (082-260741/260845), email (iresources@swinburne.edu.my) or come to Library Lending Desk to reset your Libr@ryNet account.
Q: How do I find material in the Library?
You can use the Library catalogues by checking:
OPAC
Online Journals
Multisearch – Search across multiple databases
(Note: All are accessible from both on and off-campus (Libr@rynet username and password are required))
Q: What should I do if I can't find a book?
OPAC, the online catalogue, will tell you if the item has been borrowed. If it's not on loan and not on the shelves, it might be at the book trolleys or at the Individual Study Area / Reading Area / Discussion Room / Quiet Reading Room. If you still can't find it, please speak to librarian at the Reference Desk or Lending Desk.
Do remember to check the following:
- The loan status and Item Type (Normal / Counter Reserve / Short-Term Circulation)
- The prefix 'REF' means it's a Reference Collections (on Reference Collection shelves)
Q: How do I reserve an item?
From OPAC item status menu, click the 'Reserve' icon and enter you Libr@ryNet username and password. A notification on your queue number and estimated waiting time will appear on the screen. Click “Yes” to proceed the reservation.
(Note: The Reserve icon will only activated if the item is checked out)
Q: What is the Short-Term Collection?
Short-Term Collection is a collection of undergraduate texts likely to be in heavy demand. It is recommended by the Teaching Staff to ensure this collection is given the equal opportunity for access to the Library Users.
The Short-Term collection item is identified with a “3 Days” sticker on top of the spine of the book.
Borrowing periods are restricted to a maximum of 3 days and no renewal can be made.
Q: How long and how many items can I borrow?
Loan period for circulating materials varies according to the status of the borrower, and details are available here.
Q: How do I renew an item?
You can renew your loan once however you should ensure that:
- The due date has not expired
- The specific item has not been requested or reserved by other users
Online renewals, do login to your library account at www.librarynet.com.my
Email renewals can be made by emailing iresource@swinburne.edu.my
Telephone renewals may be made by calling 082-260741or 082-260845 during the opening hours of the library.
Q: Why can't I renew a certain item online?
Items cannot be renewed online under certain conditions:
- Your account is blocked due to
- unsettled fines
- expired library membership - The item has been renewed once
- The item is reserved by other user
In these cases please contact the Lending Desk Staff for more information and to resolve the blocked account.
Q: Where do I ask if I have a question?
The Reference Desk acts as the first point of contact for enquiries. A Staff is assigned to assist you and if necessary, your enquiries will be referred to other Liaison Library Officer or other Library Units.
Q: What online resources are available to me?
The Library subscribes online databases, online journals and e-Books to help you with your research. It covers most subjects taught at the University and vary from bibliographic databases (which give details of published articles, books, etc), to full-text, citation, image, mapping, newspaper, reference, and alerting databases.
Should there be any enquiries or difficulties with these resources, please approach The Reference Desk.
Please note - due to license restrictions, only staff and students of the University are eligible to use the Library's online resources.
Q: Do I need a password to use online resources?
A few online resources required a username and password for on-campus access. To obtain the username and password, you can call at 082-260741/260845, email (iresources@swinburne.edu.my) or come to Library Lending Desk.
Q: Can I access online resources from off campus?
Online resources (e-Books/journals/databases) can be freely searched from Off Campus/Remote Access, and many of the online resources subscribed by the Library can be accessed with the Libr@ryNet username and password.
Q: How do I make printing and photocopies at Swinburne Sarawak Library?
Swinburne Sarawak Library provides self service network printing and photocopying facilities in Building A. Students ID card also serves as your printing and photocopying card. Visit the Pharos Printing System guides for more information.
Ask the Library I.T. Section Desk if you need assistance.
Q: Is there a color printer or a color photocopier in the library?
There are currently no color printer and photocopy in the library.
Q: Can I make double-sided printing/photocopies in the library?
All of the printing machines in the library can do double sided printing /photocopy.
For printing:
Following the printing directions:
- Select File ? Print ? Properties ? Select 2 sided Print ? Click OK
For Photocopies:
Following the directions on the touch screen at the top front of the copy machine to make two-sided photocopies:
- select one-sided to two-sided 1>2 or two-sided to two-sided 2>2
Once these steps are completed you will receive the two-sided document.
Q: Can I obtain items that are not held by the library?
Yes. We can help you to obtain materials that are not held by this library, through Inter-library loan/ Document delivery service. Go to ILL link for full information about this service.
