Scholarships offered by Swinburne

Swinburne Sarawak offers full scholarships and tuition bursaries to outstanding and deserving students. Students can apply for scholarships by completing the application process and enclosing all supporting documents. 

To be eligible for scholarships students will be assessed on:

  • Academic performance
  • Relevant research and work experience
  • Research publications or creative works
  • Alignment with the University's Key Research Areas

The University will continue monitoring students’ eligibility for the financial support schemes. Continuation of the scholarship is dependent on the student maintaining satisfactory progress.

The Transport Innovation Centre Scholarship

The Transport Innovation Centre was launched at Swinburne with the Malaysia Automotive Institute to find novel solutions for challenges in the transport and auto manufacturing industry.

The Centre will develop new automotive, energy storage and personal mobility products for Sarawak and Sabah. We are seeking research candidates with business, information technology and engineering (mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, material) backgrounds to join us.

20 full scholarships for Master by Research and PhD candidates are available at Swinburne Sarawak for 2017. 

The Swinburne Research Scholarship

The Swinburne Research Scholarship is merit based, and awarded to PhD and Master by Research candidates. It offers students a full tuition bursary with a monthly stipend of RM1,900.

For PhD candidates it is awarded for 3 years, while for Master by Research it is offered for 1 year. In both cases the University reserves the right to lend an extension for a maximum period of 6 months.

Recipients of this scholarship will also gain teaching experience by assisting their supervisors for 4 hours every week during the semester period. They can also apply for the Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Travel Award.

There will be three rounds of scholarships per year and the first closing date is 31 March 2017.

There will be subsequent rounds in August and December. 

The Swinburne Tuition Scholarship

Available for PhD and Master by Research students, the Swinburne Tuition Scholarship offers a full tuition fee bursary. For the current published rates please click here.

Swinburne Tuition Bursary

Prospective PhD and Master by Research students can apply for the Swinburne Tuition Bursary which awards them a tuition bursary of 70% of the current published fees.

This bursary is granted for 3 years to PhD candidates, while for Master by Research it is offered for 1 year. In both cases the University reserves the right to lend an extension for a maximum period of 6 months.

Recipients of this scholarship will also gain teaching experience by assisting their supervisors for 2 hours every week during the semester period.

There will be three rounds of scholarships per year and the first closing date is 31 March 2017.

There will be subsequent rounds in August and December. 

Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Travel Award

Swinburne Sarawak provides opportunities for its students to gain international research experience through the Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Travel Award. This award is a travel bursary of RM30,000 for research students to visit or study in an international university or research institution for a period of time during their candidature.

Criteria:

  • Students must be enrolled in a full-time postgraduate research program.
  • Students should have an associate supervisor from the prospective university and an invitation or acceptance letter from the receiving research institution.
  • The prospective university has to be in the top 400 globally ranked universities according to the latest Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) list. Research Institutions that have an equivalent international research integrity would be considered.
  • The award will be granted subject to satisfactory progress of candidature.

There will be three rounds of scholarships per year and the first closing date is, 31 March 2017.

There will be subsequent rounds in August and December. 

 

Scholarships offered externally

Malaysian Ministry of Education Scholarships

The Malaysian Ministry of Education offers scholarships for Malaysian nationals for postgraduate study in the following areas:

Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.

  • MyMaster is for all Masters and Master by Research candidates
  • MyPhD is for all doctoral candidates.

Yayasan Biasiswa Sarawak Tunku Abdul Rahman

Please enquire with the Sarawak Foundation about the subject areas being sponsored. The application has to be made through the Sarawak Foundation and opens in August 2016. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview in October 2016.
