Research Lab: IPTEL Research Lab
The IPTEL was set up in 2005 jointly with ICDS Sdn. Bhd., an electronic integrated circuit design house, and 1st Silicon Sdn. Bhd. (now know as X-Fab Sarawak), Sarawak premier silicon foundry. From its initial purpose of carrying out testing of integrated circuit designed by ICDS Sdn. Bhd., the laboratory has expanded to include research and development into Microelectromechanical System (MEMS) reliability and RFID devices.
The laboratory was initially funded by the industrial partners and Swinburne's University internal grant but it is now self-funded from the multiple research grants the laboratory has successfully obtained since its inception. Among the grants received are:
- 3D Pointing Device, RM38,000.00 granted by Malaysian Ministry of Finance through CRADLE program.
- Novel RF MEMS Switch Driver for Longer Switch Life and Failure Detection, RM199,000.00 granted by Malaysian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation through the ScienceFund scheme.
- Mapping the Faulty Behaviors of Defective RF MEMS Filter for Self-testable Design, co-recipient of RM89,000.00 granted by Malaysian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation through the ScienceFund scheme in collaboration with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
