Academic Progress Reviews

Twice a year, formal progress review sessions are held to make sure all students are progressing well in their studies.

Like other universities, Swinburne has set levels of satisfactory academic progress. If you slip below these levels, you will first be emailed a preliminary warning advising that you are At Risk.

If your progress has not improved at the end of the next progress review period, you will be emailed a more serious notice advising that you are now Show Cause and required to explain to the university why you should not be excluded from your course.

It is also covered in the Academic Courses Regulations 2013.


Progress review periods

Progress Review Period 1

This period includes:

  • Summer Term
  • Semester 1

Postgraduate Programs

  • Term 1
  • Term 2

Progress Review Period 2

This period includes:

  • Winter Term
  • Semester 2

Postgraduate Programs

  • Term 3
  • Term 4

Progress Review Hearings

Progress Review Period 1 hearings are normally held mid-year, two weeks prior to the commencement of Semester 2.

Progress Review Period 2 hearings are normally held three weeks prior to the start of Semester 1 of the following year.

Progress review hearings may be held outside the scheduled times at the discretion of the university.
