Capstone Final Year Projects are geared to discipline in which the student is enrolled. The proposals submitted for consideration in HET551/557 must consist of elements of Mechatronics to illustrate basic understanding of the discipline and the requirements of B.Eng in Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering. HET 551/557 projects are mainly group projects (maximum of 3 students), where all members will collaborate to achieve a common goal. Nonetheless, the unit requirements place limitations on how the groups will be organized and how work will be distributed between members. It is an assessment requirement that each student in a project group will be responsible for the development of at least one complete subsystem.

In the unit Robot System Design, students are involved in Hand-Eye coordination projects. They are required to configure and control the Scorbot to pick up and place required objects from the robot’s field of view using a camera. It involves setting up two-way communication between the robot controller and the CPU where the camera is connected. Students are required to use the provided RoboWork software for modelling and animation of the robot motion on the computer screen. This project, with the use of real industrial equipment, provides up-to-date knowledge and good hands-on work experience on robotic systems.

Eligible students have three sources of proposals as stated below in descending order of priority:

Industrial-based project

  • Project proposed by the supervisor
  • Project proposed by student(s)

Lab E216 is specifically allocated for students to base their equipment and all necessary material for complete building as well as design of their systems.
