Both robots have multi-axes controllers that allow them to be integrated into the automation cells along with other industrial equipment. Modular type pneumatic components for building up pneumatic circuits that can be used to teach students the basics of pneumatic control and actuation are available.

In the unit Robot System Design, students are involved in Hand-Eye coordination projects. They are required to configure and control the Scorbot to pick up and place required objects from the robot’s field of view using a camera. It involves setting up two-way communication between the robot controller and the CPU where the camera is connected. Students are required to use the provided RoboWork software for modelling and animation of the robot motion on the computer screen. This project, with the use of real industrial equipment, provides up-to-date knowledge and good hands-on work experience on robotic systems.

The Robotics Lab is available for use by students taking the following units:

  • HES 5250 Robot System Design
  • HET 551 and HET 557 Design and Development Project 1 and 2

The lab currently equipped with two modern industrial robots from Intellitek:

  • SCORBOT-ER Vplus
  • SCORBOT_ER 9

In the Design and Development Project 1 and 2 the final year students are involved in designing and building up various intelligent mechatronics systems that require combining the knowledge gained in previous years. It includes both hardware and software design and development.
