Credited industry placement for Swinburne Sarawak students

Students pursuing Business, Design, ICT and Science programs at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus now have the option to undertake credited industry experience following the launching of its Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Placement program, recently.

To commence in the Winter Term in June, the three-month WIL Placement program is an option students could add to their studies as exemptions to two electives.

“It combines hands-on learning in industry with academic supervision, workplace reflection and feedback from the industry,” said Academic Executive Dean Professor Ir Dr Sim Kwan Yong who officiated the launching.

Apart from helping them to develop important career skills including CV writing, interview and essential job hunting skills, WIL students will be supported to develop reflective writing skills, career decision making, ethical practice and professional networking skills, he added.

“In addition to gaining real industry work experience, they will also develop valuable career development skills as well as contacts and professional network that will last for a life time,” Sim said, adding that the WIL program is more than a normal industry training or internship.

The program is part of the university’s 2025 Vision to offer every Swinburne learner work integrated learning and real industry experience, and its goal for every graduate to be a job taker or a job creator in the future of work.

Swinburne Sarawak will be reaching out to business and industry to provide more placement options for students undertaking the WIL program.

The credited industry placement program is spearheaded by Swinburne Sarawak’s Learning and Teaching Unit supported by the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science, Faculty of Business, Design and Arts, Student Engagement, and Business Development and Liaison.

Students who are interested to learn more about the WIL program may contact the university’s Employability Team at Student Central or email to careercentre@swinburne.edu.my
