Kickstart your future at Swinburne Sarawak’s Open Days on 11 and 18 June

KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus welcomes SPM, STPM, O-Level, A-Level and UEC school-leavers to its Open Days on 11 and 18 June to learn about affordable and quality Australian tertiary education closer to home.

Both Open Days, which will be held from 10am to 4pm at Swinburne Sarawak Campus, are also a great opportunity for those who are ready to take the next step in their education journey to obtain first-hand information on scholarships, financial assistance, campus facilities and much more.

Students seeking to further their studies can engage in face-to-face sessions with academic staff from the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science; Faculty of Business, Design and Arts; and School of Foundation Studies to gain insight on the various courses available at the university and their career prospects.

Furthermore, students can have a chat with education counsellors to discover more about courses, scholarships, financial aid, accommodation or any relevant queries they may have. External financial aid providers such as Yayasan Sarawak and Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) are expected to be present to offer advice and counselling on financial assistance.

Swinburne Sarawak also offers a variety of scholarships for foundation, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to ease the financial burden of students and their families. Of interest is the Pro-Chancellor Excellence Full Scholarship, whereby top-performing students who enrol in an undergraduate programme could enjoy up to 100% fee waiver.

Besides this full scholarship, there are many other financial assistance options available, including the DVC Academic Excellence Scholarship, UEC Academic Excellence Scholarship, Academic Progression Scholarship, Emerging Technology Award and Alumni Bursary Award, among others.

In collaboration with Yayasan Sarawak, Swinburne Sarawak also offers the Yayasan Sarawak BP40 Bursary Scheme. This is a special bursary scheme for eligible Sarawakian Bumiputera students, allowing them to enrol into their preferred programmes at foundation, diploma or degree levels with subsidised tuition fees. For students under the BP40 scheme, the total tuition fees at Swinburne Sarawak throughout the duration of their studies are as low as tuition fees at any public universities (IPTA) in Malaysia.

Moreover, students awarded the BP40 bursary have the option to apply for a Yayasan Sarawak study loan to cover their remaining fees. Upon graduation, students could get up to 75% tuition fee rebate. Students will also be entitled to a RM4,000 annual living allowance for the duration of their studies.

Swinburne Sarawak will also be offering its Study Now Pay Later (SNPL) scheme for new commencing domestic students, allowing them to adapt to studying at the university without the initial financial commitment. Students can select one of two options: six weeks of free trial classes followed by an Interest-Free Easy Payment Plan involving instalment payments, or two weeks of trial classes followed by a Full-Term Payment Plan.

During the Open Day events, visitors can catch a glimpse of the vibrant university life at Swinburne Sarawak through guided tours of the campus. As part of these tours, visitors can view the highly-anticipated upgrades being carried out to enhance the campus experience and provide students with a world-class teaching and learning environment. In addition, goody bags and exclusive Swinburne merchandise will be up for grabs. With the university accepting on-the-spot applications during both Open Days, students who accept the offer of study at Swinburne Sarawak will receive a special mystery gift upon enrolment.

To facilitate on-the-spot applications, prospective students are advised to prepare the following relevant documents in PDF form saved in a USB: identification card (Malaysian students) or passport (international students), academic transcripts and certificates as well as English language proficiency test results (MUET, IELTS, TOEFL or equivalent qualification). For those attending the Open Day on 11 June before SPM results are released, the university will accept forecast or school results. Meanwhile, those attending on 18 June can bring along their SPM result slip for on-the-spot application. Eligible students applying for admission will receive a Letter of Offer on the same day.

Those who plan to attend either of the Open Days are encouraged to visit www.swinburne.edu.my/openday/ to register their interest.

Furthermore, from 19 June to 10 July, Swinburne Sarawak will be holding extended counselling hours over the weekends from 10am to 4pm on campus, in addition to its existing weekday counselling hours from 10 am to 5pm. Online counselling on demand is also available from Monday to Saturday, 10am to 10pm.

For 2022, the university is also introducing new programmes, namely the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Software, Bachelor of Quantity Surveying and Diploma of Accountancy.
