Sarawak Career and Internship Fair at Swinburne Sarawak offers exciting employment options for job seekers

KUCHING – The Sarawak Career and Internship Fair hosted by Swinburne Sarawak yesterday attracted over 1,200 job-seekers who were eager to find out more about existing job options available in various industries as well as gain insights into the participating companies’ background.

The one-day annual event, an initiative of HRINCAMPUS in collaboration with Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, showcased leading employers in the country from industries such as engineering, ICT, banking and finance, telecommunications, construction, education and automobile.

This year’s 22 participating companies include Sarawak Energy Berhad, Ernst & Young, Speedwing, Longi (Kuching) Sdn Bhd, Keyence Malaysia, Press Metal, CPA Australia, Intern2u, Tokio Marine, Out of Box, Nielsen, Hilti Asia IT Services, OBYU, Great Eastern, Career Star International and others.

The event is supported by other institutions of higher learning namely Swinburne Sarawak, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), UCSI Sarawak, SEGi College Sarawak, Executive College, Cosmopoint College of Technology, Technology College Sarawak, Lim Kok Wing Institute of Creative Technology, SIDMA College Sarawak, FAME International College, PTPL Sarawak, SATT College, Sunway College Kuching, Asia Metropolitan University (Masterskill Global College Kuching), International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (ICATS) and many more.

At the fair, visitors had the chance to speak directly to the respective employers and find out what these employers are looking for in hiring the right candidates. Students who are currently pursuing their studies were also able to find out about internship placements and training programmes available. A few companies offered on-the-spot applications and conducted face-to-face interviews.

Human Resources Executive of Sarawak Energy Berhad Danielle Clarke commented that the fair allowed the company to recruit not only students from Swinburne Sarawak but also other local talents, particularly in the field of electrical, electronic and mechanical engineering.

“By taking part in this event, it also gave us the opportunity to highlight our company’s corporate branding as we are commonly known as SESCO, and many are unaware of the bigger scope our company is involved in,” said Danielle.

Meanwhile, Senior Manager, Tax of Ernst & Young Anne Chong remarked that the company’s participation seeks to recruit technically competent candidates who are equipped with relevant technical skills, possessed excellent academic results, proficient in English, armed with great personality and the ability to interact with confidence.

“Ernst & Young offers a fulfilling career experience for its employees where we also provide in-house training to enhance their skills to enable them to move forward in their career,” said Chong, adding that besides recruiting those with accounting or finance background, the company is also interested to hire those with IT background.

Swinburne Sarawak has an outstanding graduate employability record. The overall graduate employment rate is over 93%, with 100% employment reported for several of its Business and Engineering programmes.

Students are prepared for a successful career through the integration of industry needs in the teaching and learning process at Swinburne through capstone projects in the final year, internship opportunities with leading companies, career talks and guidance as well as a global alumni network to leverage on.
