Swinburne Sarawak scores with flying colours in recent ACCA exam

KUCHING – The ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) December 2017 results that were recently announced once again saw students at Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus passing with flying colours.

The university achieved a pass rate of 64% for ACCA Accelerate Programme Paper P3 Business Analysis, surpassing the World Pass Rate of 56%.

This follows the university’s outstanding success where in October last year, Swinburne’s Sarawak campus scored a 57% passing rate which also surpassed the ACCA World Pass Rate of 53% for the Professional Level paper examination, Paper P1 Governance, Risk and Ethics. Furthermore, its second-year accounting major student Lim Yee Wen scored a remarkable 73% marks for the said paper.

According to Swinburne Sarawak’s Dean of Faculty of Business, Design and Arts Professor Dr Lee Miin Huui, the ACCA examinations rigorously test skills, abilities and competencies demanded in the field of accounting, preparing students for a rewarding career as qualified and ethical finance professionals.

“We are proud of the good ACCA course results achieved by our students who are mostly our existing accounting and finance degree students. This clearly shows that Swinburne Accounting and Finance Degree has built a solid foundation for the students. Our close working relationship with ACCA which focuses on teaching innovation has also contributed towards these positive results,” remarked Professor Dr Lee.

Meanwhile, Swinburne Sarawak’s accounting lecturer Jacqueline Chang commented that the overall success is due to the students’ own determination and hard work, combined with the dedicated lecturers’ professionalism and personal attention to guide the students throughout their ACCA examinations.

“Further analysis shows that 100% of students with CGPA 3.0 and above passed their ACCA paper. I hope these excellent results will boost our students’ confidence in pursuing the ACCA professional papers while undergoing their second and final-year degree,” said Chang.

In June 2017, Swinburne Sarawak and ACCA inked an agreement for the ACCA Accelerate programme that enables the university’s second-year accounting or double major accounting and finance degree students to sit for the ACCA Professional Level papers. The Accelerate programme not only gives students an early start to a career in accounting, finance, business and management, but also other benefits such as an accelerated path to ACCA membership, reduced exemption fees and practical assistance and guidance in regards to their studies.

Swinburne Sarawak’s School of Business under the Faculty of Business, Design and Arts offers Bachelor of Business (single major) in Accounting, Finance, Human Resource Management, International Business, Management, and Marketing, as well as two double major options in Accounting and Finance or Management and Digital Media. These three-year courses have intakes in January, February, September and October.

SPM school-leavers can apply for the one-year Swinburne Foundation Studies (Business) programme as a pathway to their bachelor’s degree which focuses on developing fundamental communications and academic skills, as well as learning the basic principles of business administration.

The Faculty offers courses that are carefully monitored for their academic quality, career relevance, and compliance with Malaysian and Australian qualifications standards. The courses are accredited and recognised by CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
