Scholarships offered by Swinburne

Swinburne Sarawak offers full scholarships and tuition bursaries to outstanding and deserving students. Students can apply for scholarships by completing the studentship and fee waiver application form and enclosing all supporting documents.

To be eligible for scholarships students will be assessed on:

  • Academic performance
  • Relevant research and work experience
  • Research publications or creative works
  • Alignment with the University's Key Research Areas

The University will continue monitoring students’ eligibility for the financial support schemes. Continuation of the scholarship is dependent on the student maintaining satisfactory progress.

Swinburne Tuition Fee Award

Available for PhD and Master by Research students, the Swinburne Tuition fee Award offers full or partial (30%, 70% or 100%) tuition fee waivers. For the current published tuition fees please click here.

The Swinburne Tuition Fee Award is granted for 3 years to PhD candidates and for 18 months to Master by Research candidates. 

Recipients of this scholarship will be required to contribute 2-4 hours every week during the semester towards their faculty's teaching and research activities.

Candidates who have been awarded the full (100%) tuition fee waiver will automatically be eligible and considered for the Swinburne Research Studentship. 

Applications are open year round. Students should submit their application form and supporting documents to the Research & Consultancy Office at the same time they apply for admission to a research degree.

Swinburne Research Studentship

The Swinburne Research Studentship is merit based, and awarded to PhD and Master by Research candidates. It offers students a full tuition fee waiver with a monthly stipend of RM1,900.

For PhD candidates, it is awarded for 3 years, while for Master by Research it is offered for 18 months. 

Recipients of this scholarship will be required to contribute 4-6 hours every week during the semester towards their faculty's teaching and research activities.

Only students who have been awarded the full (100%) tuition wee waiver are eligible for the Swinburne Research Studentship. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews end of March and end of September. 

Applications are open year round, and students can commence their studies with the Swinburne Tuition Fee Award or can choose to wait for their application for the Studentship.

Students should submit their application form and supporting documents to the Research & Consultancy Office at the same time they apply for admission to a research degree.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Travel Award

Swinburne Sarawak provides opportunities for its students to gain international research experience through the Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Travel Award. This award is a travel bursary of RM30,000 for research students to visit or study in an international university or research institution for a period of time during their candidature.

Criteria:

  • Students must be enrolled in a full-time postgraduate research program.
  • Students should have an associate supervisor from the prospective university and an invitation or acceptance letter from the receiving research institution.
  • The prospective university has to be in the top 400 globally ranked universities according to the latest Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) list. Research Institutions that have an equivalent international research integrity would be considered.
  • The award will be granted subject to satisfactory progress of candidature.

Applications for 2019 will be accepted from 1 January until 16 March 2019.

The MAI-Swinburne Automotive Research Scholarship

The MAI-Swinburne Automotive Research Program was launched at Swinburne with the Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) to find novel solutions for challenges in the transport and auto manufacturing industry.

This program will facilitate the development of new automotive, energy storage and personal mobility products for Sarawak and Sabah. We are seeking research candidates with business, information technology and engineering (mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, material) backgrounds to join us.

40 full scholarships for Master by Research candidates are available for 2017/2018. These scholarships are aligned with the Program's projects and applications will be accepted year round.

Malaysian Ministry of Education Scholarships

The Malaysian Ministry of Education offers scholarships for Malaysian nationals for postgraduate study in the following areas:

Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.

  • MyMaster is for all Masters and Master by Research candidates
  • MyPhD is for all doctoral candidates.

Yayasan Biasiswa Sarawak Tunku Abdul Rahman

Please inquire with the Sarawak Foundation about the subject areas being sponsored. The application has to be made through the Sarawak Foundation and opens in August 2018. 

Yayasan Biasiswa Sarawak Tun Taib 

This is a full scholarship for Master and PhD and open for Sarawakians only. It is for outstanding students in areas of science and the digital sphere and the full list can be found on the foundation's website. Applications for this scholarship can be made once you have received your offer letter and the Research Office will assist you in your application.
