School of ICT Hosts Temasek Polytechnic for a Global Study Visit

KUCHING – The School of Information and Communication Technologies, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, hosted a 23-member delegation from Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore, recently. As part of the polytechnic’s Global Study Program, the group was welcomed to an engaging campus experience, academic showcases, and cross-cultural exchange. As this was the first visit to Kuching for many of the visiting students, they were given a first-hand look at Swinburne’s dynamic learning environment.

Hosted by the School of ICT leadership team, the visitors were given a comprehensive snapshot of the school’s academic strength, research culture, and student-led innovation.

Bachelor of Computer Science students shared their final-year projects and learning journeys, offering valuable insights into the hands-on, industry-relevant education offered at Swinburne Sarawak

The key highlight was a project showcase by five Bachelor of Computer Science students. The industry-relevant, real-world innovations showcased sparked vibrant discussion on the design, application, and academic experiences that earned high praise from the visitors.

The delegation also toured the university’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the Cisco Networking Lab and Internet of Things (IoT) laboratories. The IoT session stood out, with the visitors praising the clarity and real-world application of the demonstration given.

Swinburne Sarawak’s Bachelor of Computer Science program is designed to prepare students for the evolving tech landscape, offering majors in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data science. The curriculum integrates industry-recognized certifications and provides access to state-of-the-art facilities, including a cybersecurity lab, among others.

Other than the research laboratories, the group explored the university’s student-focused spaces, including the collaborative learning hubs, gaming room, and the newly renovated library. One student noted, “The school tour was great – we saw different labs and experienced what it’s like in the shoes of a student here,” while another remarked, “All the places I visited were really interesting, especially the IoT room, the gaming room, and the library.”

The visitors delve into the future of smart technology at Swinburne Sarawak’s IoT Lab, experiencing how classroom concepts are brought to life through applied projects and real-world tech demonstrations.

Reflecting on the visit, Associate Professor Dr Miko Chang May Lee said the school was delighted with the opportunity to share, learn, and collaborate with other institutions. “Global learning broadens perspectives and builds bridges between institutions,” she added.

The visit by Temasek Polytechnic underscores Swinburne Sarawak’s commitment to fostering international partnerships and providing students with global learning opportunities that prepare them for future careers in technology.
