KUCHING – Creativity and bold ideas took centre stage as Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus brought GradX 2025 to life at tHe Spring Mall from 13 to 15 June 2025, marking the first time the university’s flagship final-year exhibition by its School of Design and Arts was held off-campus.
The exhibition, chaired by Ts Michael Lee and co-chaired by Ms Jasmine Ng, presented the outstanding achievements of Swinburne Sarawak’s graduating students in Multimedia Design, Graphic Design, Digital Media Design, and emerging technologies.
Open to the public daily from 10am to 10pm, GradX 2025 welcomed visitors to experience a wide range of industry-ready projects, including interactive media, branding, storytelling, animation, and innovations using Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT).
GradX 2025 also highlighted Swinburne’s growing network of collaborators. The inclusion of a special client project was made possible through a recommendation from Goethe-Institut Malaysia and Borneo Story Lab, strengthening the university’s industry and cultural ties.

The event’s official launch ceremony, held on 14 June 2025, saw opening and welcoming speeches delivered by Professor Dr Brian Wong Kee Mun, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Design, and Arts at Swinburne Sarawak, and GradX Coordinator Anthea Imun Isnen, respectively.
The ceremony also marked the introduction of Swinburne Sarawak’s global pathway to earn a Bachelor of Design (Interior Architecture) (Honours). Mementos and awards were presented by Associate Professor Dr Predrag K Nikolic, Head of the School of Design and Arts at Swinburne Sarawak.
Throughout the three-day event, attendees from industry and the public enjoyed an array of dynamic activities. On Day 2, a design forum led by Senior Lecturer Mr Greg Wee and moderated by GradX Coordinators Anthea Imun Isnen and Sally Hwong Xue Qing offered an insightful exploration of how design can be harnessed as a tool for entrepreneurship.
The event also featured hands-on creative workshops facilitated by Lecturers Ms Helena Goh and Ms Eunice Law. The “Zine Workshop” sessions on 13 June 2025 provided a platform for school students and local youth to unleash their creativity, while the “Paper Vase Workshop” on Day 3 welcomed young creators aged 6 to 12 to explore the world of design through fun and interactive activities.

“This year, we’re taking GradX on a little adventure – out of the campus and into the heart of the city! It’s not just an exhibition; it’s a chance for everyone to stumble upon creativity, meet our talented students, and see how design can make everyday life a bit more exciting,” said Ts Michael Lee, GradX Chair.
Ms Jasmine Ng, GradX 2025 Co-Chair, remarked, “Organising GradX 2025 was like curating an art gallery inside a theme park – with a mix of creativity, chaos, and a whole lot of heart. Co-chairing this showcase was like being on a rollercoaster made of brilliant ideas, last-minute fixes, and moments that made us all proud. To see our students light up the mall with their ideas was worth every late-night WhatsApp and caffeine-fuelled brainstorm!”
GradX 2025 once again served as a meaningful bridge between academia and industry, providing students the valuable opportunity to present their work to the public, engage with potential employers, and receive valuable feedback. The event drew attendance from families, peers, faculty members, and design professionals – all celebrating the hard work and innovation demonstrated in each project.
The School of Design and Arts at Swinburne Sarawak continues to deliver industry-aligned education in Graphic Design, Multimedia, Digital Media Design, Media and Communication, and emerging technologies. The university remains committed to producing graduates who lead the future of creative industries, both locally and globally.
