Student Achievements and Industry-Linked Projects: A Win in 2025

By P Michael

Student achievements and industry-linked projects are some of the highlights of 2025 – experiences that help build skills, strengthen job readiness and show how our students apply learning to real-world problems across various fields.

2025 is special for Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus. We reached 25 years of helping students grow, learn, and step into careers that matter.

Our milestones came through steady support from our industry partners, community stakeholders, and the Sarawak Government.

About 4,500 students from more than 50 countries now study on our Kuching campus. They bring fresh ideas, new energy, and a drive to build futures across the region. And our focus stayed clear through the year: strong student support, real industry experience, and learning that prepares our graduates for work and life.

Here’s a look at what our students achieved and how these wins shaped the year.

A Year of Growth and Achievements

Student Achievements

Competitions gave students a chance to test skills, and grow in confidence. Moreover, joining these competitions gives students the opportunity to work with wider audiences. Showcasing student achievements is central to recognition of our students skills and talents.

    • Sarawak Youth Talent 2025: Multimedia Design student Aisya Syahmina Binti Zailani earned an Outstanding Award for her TikTok piece on responsible tourism. Her work was placed in the top five percent of more than 100 entries and grew out of an industry-linked assignment.
    • Adobe Certified Professional National Championship 2025: Multimedia Design student Emma Lee Shu Ting and Graphic Design student Rodney Ocean Bonardy stood out in this national event. This is because their entries showed strong digital thinking and design skills employers look for in new talents.

Industry-Linked Projects

Our commitment to practical experience is best demonstrated through our industry-linked projects.

Final Year Project Showcase: More than 200 students presented their engineering, ICT and science final year projects, showcasing how students learn to solve real problems with practical solutions.

At Swinburne Sarawak, our final year projects are often developed as industry-linked projects in partnership with industry experts.

JobSarawak Partnership: JobSarawak supported the showcase with résumé writing and job-matching sessions. This linked our final year students and graduates to employers as they started on their job search.

STEM Outreach

Our students brough practical learning to young people across Sarawak.

More than 200 secondary school students joined workshops in coding, AI, IoT and sustainability during the annual Swinburne Big Day Out. Furthermore, the Carbon Warriors program brought students from 13 schools to campus for a day of science and engineering challenges.

A collaboration with a science bridge communication company and the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation successfully launched SCENT, a training program that helps students and young researchers build problem solving and startup skills.

Supporting Our Students

Student support services stayed strong throughout the year:

    • The annual Careers Fair and career workshops helped students prepare for internships and graduate roles.
    • Counseling and financial advice supported mental health and personal financial planning.
    • Also, Financial aid and scholarships, including the Pro-Chancellor Excellence Scholarship, helped more students access our globally recognised and accredited programs.

We continue to offer students interest-free payment plans, while financial assistance from Yayasan Sarawak has helped ease the financial burden for many Anak Sarawak.
