Dr.Johnathan Daniel Maxey is a Marine Scientist and Research Scientist at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus. His work spans Australasia and Malaysia, with a strong focus on coastal oceanography, microbial ecology, marine resource management, and the environmental impacts of commercial scale aquaculture. His research aims to bridge the gap between industrial development and marine conservation by improving our understanding of how human activities influence marine ecosystems.

His research interests include investigating the environmental impacts of fish farming and fin-fish cage operations on coastal environments, studying greenhouse gas emissions—particularly nitrous oxide (N₂O) losses from aquaculture-associated sediments, and applying particle-tracking models to understand nutrient transport, waste dispersal, and organic matter cycling in marine ecosystems. He also examines the drivers of environmental hypoxia and their effects on coastal water quality.
