Aims and learning outcomes

This unit aims to provide students with the basic skills and knowledge of physics. The knowledge gained and the problem-solving skills developed will prepare students for undergraduate studies in applied science and engineering.

Students who successfully complete this unit should be able to:

  1. Identify the symbols and units for a wide range of physical quantities and describe their definitions
  2. Discuss the basic principles underlying the physics of physical science using both written and oral communication
  3. Apply the principles of physical science to solve conceptual and numerical problems in simple systems
  4. Conduct practical investigations safely and confidently, following instructions or guidelines and use appropriate terminology and format in reporting results of investigations
