Aims and learning outcomes

This unit aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills to apply, interpret and use mathematical techniques in various situations relevant to computer applications.

Students who successfully complete this unit should be able to:

  1. Identify the fundamentals of number systems and number theory
  2. Interpret the fundamentals of algebraic modelling and generalize solutions to algebraic equations
  3. Express convincing arguments, generalize basic mathematical proofs and discriminate between valid and fallacious arguments
  4. Apply mathematical knowledge and skills to solve a variety of discrete mathematical and simple computational problems
  5. Define and recognize basic probability concepts
