Blood Donation Drive

Blood Donation Drive

Blood is irreplaceable and it is the most precious gift a person can give to the other person — the gift of life.  Did you know that ONE pint of BLOOD can save up to THREE LIVES?  IEM-Swinburne Sarawak Student Section (IEM-SSSS) in collaboration with Blood Bank Hospital Umum Sarawak held a one-day blood donation drive at The Spring, Kuching on 17 April 2021.

The objectives of the blood donation drive are to maintain a safe and adequate blood supply for the communities especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and to raise awareness that individuals can save lives and improve the health of others by donating blood.

The event started at 10am with full adherent to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) set by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) and the Malaysia National Security Council (NSC) to curb the spread of COVID-19.  The venue layout was arranged to support physical distancing, hand sanitisers were provided on every table and the use of face mask was mandatory throughout the event.

The organising committee targeted 50 pints of blood from donation but due to overwhelming response a total of 67 pints of blood were collected.  We are glad that our Swinburne students are very positive towards blood donation and many of them are regular donors.  All the donors were provided with refreshments and received a donor gifts, as a token of our appreciation.

IEM-SSSS would like to convey its gratitude to the sponsors of the event, namely, Merchandise Sponsor – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak, Refreshment Sponsor – John’s Pie’s, Bag of Rice – Ma Hung Food Stuff and YOOGANE discount voucher – Ding Max Sdn. Bhd.  The organising committee would also like to acknowledge the Venue Sponsor – The Spring Management Services Sdn. Bhd.

The blood donation drive ended at 3pm. It was a huge success with an overwhelming response from the community.  A remarkable and meaningful event for everyone. Thanks to our donors, our Super Hero!!
