Daniel Tan was invited to present in 2021 ASEAN Training Course organized by the Institute of Urban Environment (IUE), Chinese Academy of Sciences on a topic entitled “Sustainable and Optimal Use of Biomass from Agriculture, Forestry and Aquatic Resources in Sarawak, Malaysia”. Having a theme entitled “Valorization Utilization Technology and Industrial Application of Biomass Wastes in ASEAN Region”, the training course aims to help scientists and personnel from research institutes and universities in the ASEAN countries to further understand the challenges and technologies for biomass waste utilization. The ultimate goal of this two-week program running from 15 to 28 November 2021, was to promote exchanges and cooperation between China and ASEAN countries in line with the Belt & Road Initiative. The host, Prof. Yin Wang and his fellow experts from IUE and other universities and institutes in China, had provided the major part of the training program. Through coordination by Mr Ivan B. Ho from Biotechnology Diversified Industries Sdn Bhd, four Malaysian speakers were also invited including Ivan himself, Daniel, Mr Victor Soosai and Dr Lulie Melling. Staff and students from Swinburne University were provided with the opportunity to attend this program.

Participants in person attended the workshop while some attended online.
