Taking care of Mother Earth talk

Leo Club of Swinburne Sarawak and Swinburne Sarawak Green Club co-organised an online environmental awareness talk, “Taking care of Mother Earth” event, on 25 October.

More than 63 students and members of the public attended the talks by three local conservationists via Google Meet from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

Alcila Abby of Kuching Beach Cleaners spoke on her conservation journey and beach clean-up activities while Swinburne alumnus and Sarawak Eco-Warriors co-founder Dylan Phiong presented on permaculture and community gardening.

Swinburne Sarawak Adjunct Professor Dr Melvin Gumal, who is Head of the Biodiversity Conservation and Research Division of the Sarawak Forestry Corporation, spoke on sustainable living.

The talks aimed to spread environmental and conservation awareness among the younger generation specifically students at all education levels. This is not only because they can easily adopt and adapt to new ways in conserving the environment but also because the younger generation will be the most impacted in the future if nothing is done to reduce or reverse the rapid environmental degradation.
