Abhishek wins Swinburne Sarawak Public Speaking Competition

Abhishek Kizhakkeputhanmadam Sabarinath, a second semester Computer Science student from India won the Swinburne Sarawak Public Speaking Competition that took place on Saturday, 3rd November.

Speaking passionately to the theme “A World of Plastic”, Abhi made it through the prepared and impromptu rounds to the finals along with five other finalists. Electrical and Electronic Engineering student Mohd Ameerul Iman took second place, while Information and Communication Technology student Johan Donough placed third. Undergraduate Sandali Thalahitiyage and Foundation students Jibril Saleem and George Lam Li Kang made up the final six. The top three speakers won each won a cash prize and trophy.

The annual Public Speaking Competition is organized by the Swinburne Debaters’ Club and is aimed to encourage students to hone and practice their English speaking skills in a safe and friendly environment. Participants are encouraged to join the weekly debate and public speaking sessions that are run throughout the year, including during breaks when senior members are free to organize the activities.
