MICPA and CA ANZ representatives visit Swinburne Sarawak, share about MICPA x CA ANZ Qualifying Programme

KUCHING – Representatives from the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) and Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CA ANZ) visited Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus on 27 September, engaging in discussions and information sessions on the MICPA x CA ANZ Qualifying Programme – a dual qualification awarded in Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand.

MICPA’s Head of Marketing & Strategic Engagement Eileen Grace Lee and CA ANZ’s Careers Engagement Manager Leong Pui Kuan were welcomed by Swinburne Sarawak’s Acting Dean of Faculty of Business, Design and Arts Dr Fung Chorng Yuan and Discipline Leader for Accounting and Finance courses Dr Yii Kwang Jing.

Discussions revolved around the upcoming collaborations and details on the features and benefits of the newly-revamped MICPA x CA ANZ Qualifying Programme. Other matters discussed were ways in which both institutes could collaborate on student activities, scholarships and awards for Swinburne students as well as industrial talks to provide real-world insights for the benefit of students and lecturers.

Lee and Leong also conducted information sessions on the MICPA x CA ANZ Qualifying Programme for some accounting students.

Swinburne Sarawak graduates majoring in accounting or accounting and finance are eligible to enrol in the MICPA x CA ANZ Qualifying Programme. This programme can be completed in one year on a full-time basis or two years on a part-time basis.

The programme has incorporated more future- and tech-related content to enable aspiring professionals to remain relevant and future-proof. Apart from having a dual qualification, graduates of the programme will be part of the Global Accounting Alliance (GAA) and can enjoy the benefits of localised technical support around the globe and be part of a global network of professionals. This is a unique benefit that students can gain from.

The programme aims to develop well-rounded professionals who can think and analyse critically, solve problems and provide practical advice and solutions. It is not exam-oriented but rather combines a mix of ongoing assessments and team-based group work with a minimum number of four.

The new subjects introduced are ‘Ethics & Business’, ‘Risk & Technology’ and electives such as ‘Data Analytics & Insights’ and ‘Sustainability for Accountants’. Further details on the MICPA x CA ANZ Qualifying Programme can be obtained from MICPA’s website at www.micpa.com.my.

Swinburne Sarawak has a long history of collaboration with various professional accounting bodies internationally. Such collaborations offer more choices to graduates, especially those who major in accounting or accounting and finance, for getting qualified as professional accountants. MICPA and CA ANZ are among the professional accounting bodies that work closely with Swinburne Sarawak.
