KUCHING – SPM school-leavers who are keen to experience Australian education from the comfort of their homes can now apply for the Fast-Track Swinburne Foundation, a trimester programme that will allow students to progress directly to a bachelor’s degree programme by March 2022.

Students can now apply with their forecast or school results prior to the SPM results release date on 10 June. Upon successful enrolment, students can start their studies online immediately on 14 June or 5 July 2021 without any payment for the first two weeks with the Start With Zero Fees Programme.

Applicable for domestic students only, the two-week Start With Zero Fees free trial classes provide students the opportunity to adapt and experience Swinburne’s online teaching and learning style. Swinburne has almost a decade of experience in online learning where it offers flexibility for student to learn and engage at any time or place. At present, Swinburne uses learning management system CANVAS, one of the world’s leading system also adopted by other renowned universities such as Harvard, Stanford and Yale.

At Swinburne, its School of Foundation Studies offers Foundation programmes that feed directly into various bachelor’s degree courses. These pre-university programmes are deemed essential in preparing and equipping students with mandatory academic and communication skills to succeed in the later stage of their tertiary education.

For those who are interested in business studies, the Swinburne Foundation Studies (Business) can lead to a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, accounting and finance, human resource management, international business, management, management and digital media, or marketing. Swinburne students majoring in accounting or accounting and finance are eligible to join the ACCA Accelerate Programme or register as an associate member of CPA Australia through the Fast Track Pathway, allowing students to get their degree and professional qualification at the same time.

Meanwhile, students who are interested to pursue a bachelor’s degree in biotechnology, environmental science, or engineering (civil, chemical, mechanical, electrical and electronic, and robotics and mechatronics) can opt to enrol in the Swinburne Foundation Studies (Engineering/Science). Swinburne’s engineering degree courses are recognised under the Washington Accord and professionally accredited by Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) Malaysia and Engineers Australia (EA).

On the other hand, the Swinburne Foundation Studies (Information Technology/Multimedia) prepares students for a bachelor’s degree in information technology (IT) majoring in cybersecurity, Internet of Things, software development, data science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), network technology, or software technology. The IT programmes are accredited by Australian Computer Society (ACS) and the university is also a recognised CISCO Academy partner.

Students who undertake the Swinburne Foundation Studies (Design) would be pleased to know that Swinburne is the first university in Australia, the first and only one in Malaysia, and among only 20 worldwide to achieve the Adobe Creative Campus status, enabling students to have full access on all devices to the Adobe Creative Cloud. The Foundation studies can lead to a bachelor’s degree in multimedia design or majoring in graphic design.

Prospective students who meet the academic requirements are automatically eligible to apply for scholarships or bursaries offered by the State government or government-linked agencies. Sarawakian Bumiputera students in particular, can take advantage of the BP40 Bursary Scheme offered to Bumiputera students of Sarawak origin from low and middle income (B40 and M40) family background.

Established in 2000, Swinburne’s Sarawak campus has graduated over 7,000 graduates over the past 20 years. The campus is in the midst of a significant RM50 million infrastructure upgrade in line with its long-term commitment to enhancing the campus experience for students. The university is favourably ranked by leading international bodies with the QS World University Rankings 2021 placing Swinburne among the top 1.5% of universities worldwide.
