Swinburne invites public to join environmental awareness talk

KUCHING – The Leo Club of Swinburne Sarawak and Swinburne Sarawak Green Club will be organising the ‘Taking Care of Mother Earth’ event, an online environmental awareness talk on 25 October 2020.

The online talk will be conducted via Google Meet from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. It is open to members of the public and admission is free. A quiz session will be organised at the end of the talk where participants stand a chance to win attractive prizes. To register for the event, go to bit.ly/careofmotherearth.

The talk aims to spread environmental awareness among the younger generation specifically students at all education levels. As young people constitute a large part of the world’s population, the responsibility to protect and conserve the natural environment and resources lies with the younger generation. This is not only because they can easily adopt and adapt to new ways in conserving the environment but also because the younger generation will be the most impacted in the future if nothing is done to reduce or reverse the rapid environmental degradation.

With three invited speakers, the two-hour talk will feature Alcila Abby of Kuching Beach Cleaners, Dylan Phiong of Sarawak Eco-Warriors and Dr Melvin Gumal of Sarawak Forestry Corporation. Alcila and Phiong will be talking about beach clean-up activities, and permaculture and community gardening respectively, while Dr Melvin’s sharing will focus on sustainable living.
