Swinburne puts Sarawak at forefront of BIM technology

KUCHING – A collaborative event co-organised by Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) Malaysia, CIDB Malaysia and CP Development successfully concluded the JKR BIM Roadshow 2023 on a high note.

Held on 21 and 22 June, the roadshow brought together industry experts, government officials and academic professionals to explore and unleash the power of digital transformation. The roadshow specifically focused on Building Information Modelling (BIM).

On the first day, the BIM seminar drew 130 participants. Renowned industry experts shared the latest advances and best practices of BIM contract and engineering requirements in JKR projects. The session also covers various aspects of BIM including digital collaboration, data management and interoperability.

The second day saw about 125 participants engaged in a workshop with hands-on and practical demonstrations and presentations of real-world scenarios. These aimed at enhancing participants’ skills and proficiency in applying BIM methodologies and technologies.

According to Ir. Professor Lau Hieng Ho, Pro Vice-Chancellor and CEO of Swinburne Sarawak, the roadshow is a positive shift toward digital transformation. It also positions Saarwak as a leader in adopting BIM technologies, he added.

“Through the roadshow, we witnessed the vibrant exchange of knowledge, ideas, and experiences. These pave the way for a more digitally-driven construction sector in Sarawak,” he said.

Ir Dr Angelia Liew San Chuin, Associate Dean, External Engagement and Impact, expressed her enthusiasm for leading BIM and Digital Twin consultancy and research at Swinburne Sarawak.

The JKR BIM Roadshow 2023 provided a platform for sharing ideas, best practices and innovative solutions through a conducive knowledge exchange, collaboration and networking environment. Participants had ample opportunity to connect with industry professionals, government officials and academic experts. This help fosters valuable relationships and pave future collaborations.
