KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus’ Faculty of Engineering, Computing, and Science successfully hosted its Semester 2 Final Year Project (FYP) Showcase on 2 December 2025, highlighting the year-long achievements of its final-year students.
Themed “People in STEM Can Work Together to Build a Better World”, the biannual showcase featured 134 projects presented by 290 final-year students from Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Robotics and Mechatronics, Electrical and Electronic, and Chemical), Computing (Computer Science and Information and Communication Technology), and Science (Biotechnology and Environmental Science). The event also included an Industry Award Ceremony, providing valuable opportunities for industry engagement and networking.
The event commenced with an opening address by Ir Professor Su Hieng Tiong, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Computing, and Science, who welcomed students, staff, alumni, and industry representatives, and expressed appreciation to the event and award sponsors – SOCOE Sdn Bhd, Logikhaus Sdn Bhd, Sunvision Engineering Sdn Bhd, and ZTE (Malaysia) Corporation Sdn Bhd, alongside PCSS Consultancy Sdn Bhd and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC) Malaysia Chapter – for their support.
“The successful completion of this year’s FYP Showcase reflects not only the creativity and technical strength of our students, but also the growing synergy between academia and industry. Through close collaboration with our industry partners, we are preparing graduates who are not only job-ready but also innovation-ready, equipped to drive real-world impact,” said Professor Su.
The FYP Showcase also featured a plenary session with guest speakers Mr Daniel Kho, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Logikhaus Sdn Bhd, and Mr Abdul Najib Azhfar Aini, Marketing and Communications Manager of SOCOE Sdn Bhd.
In his talk titled “Why Study Engineering”, Mr Kho highlighted the value of pursuing engineering studies and provided students with clearer insights on the career pathways available after graduation.
Meanwhile, Mr Abdul Najib led Swinburne alumni Gavin Ng and Jesse Ting, who are now members of the SOCOE team, in a presentation titled “From Capstone to Real-World Impact”. The speakers shared their personal journeys transitioning from their final-year capstone projects at Swinburne to adapting and contributing within a professional environment at SOCOE.
The session concluded with the Industry Award Ceremony, which recognised outstanding student projects across multiple categories and was sponsored by key industry partners and professional bodies. The industry representatives lauded the quality of the students’ work and shared constructive feedback, offering valuable insights to aspiring engineers, scientists, and technologists.
Among the industry-linked final-year projects, several were highly commended by their respective clients for their quality, innovation, and practical impact. Among them, Samuel Haw Wei Aern received strong feedback for his project titled “Hardware-Software Co-Design of a RISC-V Based Embedded Vision System for Face and Motion Detection”, which demonstrated advanced technical integration and real-world applicability.
Another team project, “A Centralised Event Management System”, developed by Teo Jia En, Jayne Wong, Liu Yue Xin, Nicholas Yong, and Clement Chang, was also praised for its effective solutions and professional delivery. The clients highlighted the system’s potential to streamline event operations.

Through their projects, the students gained invaluable hands-on experience, strengthening their skills, confidence, and readiness for real-world challenges.
“Our FYP journey, especially developing the CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system, came with technical challenges and tight deadlines, but it strengthened our skills, teamwork, and confidence. Winning this award has further boosted our belief in what we can achieve together. We’re grateful for Apploqic Technologies’ support and proud of our growth as a team,” said Lin Poh Seng, speaking on behalf of the group that won the Best Achiever’s Award for Information and Communication Technology.
Teo Jia Ming, who earned multiple awards for his project, including Most Innovative Project, Best Research Paper, and the Excellence in System Integration Award for Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering, shared, “This final year project has taught me to independently interpret complex ideas, communicate constructively with supervisors, and collaborate with peers to solve technical problems. These experiences have shaped my ability to adapt and grow in diverse professional environments.”
During the event, the students also had the opportunity to engage with industry partners at career booths hosted by SOCOE Sdn Bhd, Logikhaus Sdn Bhd, and Perbena Emas Sdn Bhd, with the latter introducing its PE NextGen Talent Program.
The Semester 2 FYP Showcase continues to reinforce Swinburne Sarawak’s standing as a future-ready institution, providing students with a meaningful platform to demonstrate their capabilities to industry and the wider community. The showcase supports Swinburne’s Horizon 2025 vision and its Moonshots by enhancing student employability, fostering industry collaboration, and strengthening opportunities for future research partnerships.
