Swinburne Sarawak Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition 2017

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition celebrates the exciting research conducted by research students around the world. Developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), the competition cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills.

Competitors need to effectively explain their research in under three minutes, using language appropriate for a non-specialist audience. They are allowed one PowerPoint slide, with no other resources or props.

For this year's competition, Swinburne Sarawak Master by Research and PhD students are invited to compete for prizes of conference funding and cash worth RM5500. The prizes are broken down as follows:

  • 1st Place: RM3000 conference funding
  • 2nd Place: RM2000 conference funding
  • People’s Choice Award: RM 500 cash

Competitors are invited to a series of oral presentation workshops on 2nd & 16th August.  These are designed to create a collaborative and supportive environment so that the group as a whole can develop its presentation skills and have some fun along the way.

An additional coaching session will be held by Karen Shepherd on the 16th September 2017 at B511-512 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm. This session will give participants the opportunity to hone their delivery through practice and peer feedback.
