Postdocs help children learn about microplastics

Friday 9 April 2021

Postdoctoral candidates Dr Changi Wong and Dr Faddrine Holt shared their work via Zoom on microplastics with more than 60 Tunku Putra - HELP International School (TPHS) students, on 9 April.

Both are doing their research on “Microplastics in local food and drinks” and their talks touched the hazards and pollution risks associated with microplastic.

According to the TPHS website, “the students learned more about microplastics and how harmful they are to the environment, interesting research findings about microplastics in Kuching and ways to reduce plastic pollution”.

Many interesting questions were raised during the very active Q&A session and many focussed on the initial results obtained from the microplastic pollution in local tea and coffee samples.

Future collaboration with TPHS was discussed following the session and they centred on the re-cycling and up-cycling of plastic wastes.
