Dr Clarice Chua is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Business, Design and Art at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak. She holds a PhD in Social Science from Swinburne University of Technology (Sarawak Campus), completed with full scholarship and stipend support from Monash University. She also holds a Master of Business Administration (International) and a Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management) from Swinburne University.
Dr Clarice’s academic foundation in business informs her interdisciplinary research spanning ageing studies, technology adoption, and human resource management. Her work investigates how older adults engage with mobile and digital technologies to support seamless ageing, with a strong focus on accessibility, empowerment, decision-making and quality-of-life outcomes. Her research contributes to the development of inclusive, technology-mediated solutions that address demographic ageing and digital equity challenges in emerging societies.
She is actively engaged in large-scale, policy-relevant research initiatives at both state and national levels. She has played a significant role in the AGELESS project, a longitudinal study on cognitive frailty funded under Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education Long Term Research Grant Scheme (LRGS), contributing to research design, multi-state data collection, instrument development and stakeholder engagement. She is also involved in the Preparation for an Ageing Sarawak Project, which informs state-level strategies for population ageing and collaborates on UNICEF-supported initiatives, including the Situational Analysis of Children in Sarawak (SiTAn) and the Sarawak Child Wellbeing Index (SCWI), contributing to analytical and policy-oriented outputs that support evidence-informed decision-making.
Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences, including the IEEE International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management. Through her work, she advances applied social science research that bridges academia, policy and technological innovation to promote inclusive and sustainable social development. Her teaching approach is grounded in constructivist and student-centered learning principles, emphasizing active engagement, clarity of communication and the practical application of disciplinary knowledge.
