Biography

Ally is a university lecturer specialising in English language learning and academic literacy development. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia, and completed her MA in TESOL and a PhD in Education at Swinburne University of Technology.

Ally has taught undergraduate and postgraduate students across a range of English and Academic Literacy subjects. She also spent a year at Southwest University in Chongqing, China, where she led curriculum development and delivered IELTS workshops, English for Academic Purposes, and Direct Entry Programs for students transitioning to universities in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and the US. In addition to her academic teaching, Ally has delivered professional development programs for local and international organisations, including SCOPE and AEMG.

Her PhD research focuses on literacy education in Malaysian higher education, particularly teacher engagement with multiliteracies pedagogy. She is interested in the evolving role of educators in today’s digital landscape, and how teaching and learning can adapt to meet future needs. Earlier in her academic journey, Ally was active in student leadership and cultural initiatives. These experiences later shaped her interest in teaching and supporting diverse learners. During her PhD, she served as Vice Secretary of the Postgraduate Research Society, leading mental health and career development efforts for postgraduate students
