Biography

Ir. Professor Sim Kwan Yong joined Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus as a Lecturer in 2000. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2007 and Associate Professor in 2017. Since year 2002, he has served numerous academic leadership roles including Program Coordinator, Associate Head of School, Associate Dean (Curriculum Enhancement and Accreditation) and Associate Dean (Academic Operation), as well as the Head of School for School of Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science. Currently, he serves as the Executive Dean (Academic) – Interim for Swinburne Sarawak. Ir. Prof. Sim also serves numerous externally appointed roles including Lead Auditor for MyRA Internal Audit (MoE), panel of evaluator (EAC), external examiner and member of school board of management.

Ir. Professor Sim has taught units in the broad area of electronic and computer engineering. In research and development (R&D) front, his interests include testing, fault localization as well as data mining and forecasting for various application domains. To date, he has won and undertaken seven competitive research grants and consultancy projects awarded by industry clients, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and Ministry of Education Malaysia. He is an accredited supervisor for Master and PhD candidates at Swinburne.

He is a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Board of Engineer Malaysia (BEM), Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the UK Engineering Council, a member of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET, UK) and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE, USA).

Kwan Yong Sim is currently a Professor and the Executive Dean (Academic) – Interim at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus.
