Hailed from the beautiful Land below the Wind, Associate Professor Dr. Ellen Chung has close to three decades of work experience in hotel industry and education sector in Malaysia. Prior to joining Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak, she was a Training Manager in a five-star international hotels and resorts chain. Her job scope included conducting, monitoring and overseeing all aspects of training. Apart from that, her experience as a lecturer, the Coordinator in the Office of International Affairs, followed by the Head of Postgraduate Centre in a public university has enhanced both her technical and people skills. She is an energetic, enthusiastic, and passionate being with strong analytical and problems solving skills. Her warm and friendly demeanour gravitate people towards her. She advocates life-long learning to ensure continuous improvement to face the rapid changes globally. She also believes that the only constant in life is change.
Dr Chung obtained her PhD from The University of Melbourne, Australia. Her research dwelled deep into the benefits university students gained from engagement with the wider communities, and its impact on their personal and career development. Her years in Melbourne has developed a global mindset in her. Aside from that, she was exposed to the practice and challenges of managing human resources whilst working in Shangri-La’s Hotels and Resorts, which was closely aligned to her Master’s studies. Her language and writing skills were honed during her Bachelor of Arts and formative years.
Dr Chung’s research interests cover organisational behaviour, human resource management, online learning, community engagement and topics related to university students. She is an accredited supervisor to supervise both master’s and PhD students. In addition to being a researcher and an author, Dr. Chung is also a reviewer for Scopus and MyCite indexed journals.
