Biography
Marione Anne Foo earned her Bachelor of Science in Education (TESL) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and her Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). She began her career in tertiary education at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak Campus as a language lecturer before joining Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak in 2011.
Since joining Swinburne Sarawak, Marione has taught across Intensive English (IE), English for Academic Purposes (EAP), Foundation English, and Academic Reading and Writing courses, with expertise in reading, writing, and academic literacy development. She currently serves as a Lecturer under the Learning and Teaching Unit (LTU), where she leads the English Enhancement Program (EEP)—a large-scale tertiary transition initiative designed to strengthen English proficiency, academic literacy, and university readiness.
Since its commencement in 2022, Marione has overseen the design, delivery, staffing, assessment, and continuous quality improvement of the EEP, supporting over 700 students across 11 cohorts in their transition into degree studies. Her work emphasises inclusive pedagogy, experiential and reflective learning, and the responsible integration of digital and AI-assisted tools to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
Marione is deeply committed to supporting students’ transition from a secondary-school mindset to the demands of tertiary education. She values collaboration across departments and disciplines and believes that effective learning environments are built through shared responsibility, thoughtful curriculum design, and student-centred teaching practices.
Her research interests focus on tertiary transition programmes, university preparatory education, English language engagement, curriculum design, and quality assurance, with growing emphasis on experiential learning, emotional intelligence in ELT, and the pedagogical use of digital and AI tools in higher education.
