Upon her graduation from the University of Melbourne in 1994, Rebecca worked as a Linguistics and Business Communication lecturer at Stamford College (Kuching) and later as a reporter cum translator (Chinese-English) for the Borneo Post and See Hua Daily newspapers. Following a move to Kuala Lumpur, she began working as a writer cum sub-editor for Management Digest. In 1998, she joined Cadas Business School (now known as Sunway College) and worked as an English Lecturer for 6 years. After returning to Sarawak, she worked at Tadika Rhema as well as Tunku Putra International School; at the latter, she designed syllabi and materials across levels (from international kindergarten to primary and secondary) and taught ESL to students of different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. In 2009, she joined Swinburne as a part-time English lecturer and taught different courses (EEP, BIE, IIE, UIIE and Malaysian Studies) for two and a half years. She became a full-time lecturer in 2011, with the desire to make further contributions to SOLF and spend more time helping her students after class.
Over the last 15 years of her teaching career, Rebecca has become passionate about teaching grammar and writing in an ESL context. In completion of her Master in Education (TESL), she wrote a paper on the efficacy of written corrective feedback in improving grammatical accuracy in L2 writing.
