Swinburne Sarawak celebrated the launch of Pedagogical Innovation Through Technology-Enhanced Learning Design: Global Case Studies and Implications for Practice, a new Routledge publication edited by Professor Ida Fatimawati Adi Badiozaman and the late Dr Augustus Raymond Segar. Held at Dewan Utama, Wisma Wanita, the launch brought together more than 100 guests and was officiated by YB Dato Sri Hajah Fatimah Abdullah, Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Sarawak.
The event was attended by distinguished guests including YB Datuk Hajah Rosey Binti Haji Yunus, Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Sarawak; YB Puan Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor, ADUN N.28 Lingga; Yang Berbahagia Dato Dr Saadiah Abdul Samat; Puan Nur Alina Abdullah @ Colliner Gohe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Sarawak; and Puan Sharifah Zakiah Tuanku Haji Pauzi, Director of the Sarawak Women and Family Department. Also present were members of Majlis Wanita dan Keluarga Sarawak (MWKS), representatives from partner institutions, and members of the media. Professor Ida, who is also a member of MWKS, welcomed the opportunity to celebrate not only the launch of the book, but also the achievements and contributions of others through the support of the council and the wider community.

Professor Ida Fatimawati Adi Badiozaman shared the inspiration behind the Routledge publication and its focus on technology-enhanced learning.
Published by Routledge (Taylor & Francis), the book brings together global case studies and practitioner perspectives on technology-enhanced learning, pedagogical innovation, authentic assessment, artificial intelligence, inclusive practices, and digital transformation in higher education. It explores how technology can be used not as an end in itself but as a means of creating more meaningful, equitable, and human-centred learning experiences.
In her remarks, Professor Ida shared that the book grew out of years of collaboration, research and fieldwork with Dr Augustus Raymond Segar across Sarawak and beyond. She reflected on how their journeys through rural communities, educational settings and research sites shaped the book’s central message: that meaningful innovation is not driven by technology alone but by how it is introduced, adapted, and embraced within communities. She described the volume as a collection of stories and case studies that demonstrate how technology-enhanced learning can remain grounded in people, purpose, and context.
The launch also featured a virtual address by Craig Kemp, author of the book’s foreword, who joined online to congratulate the editors and contributors and to mark the significance of the publication within wider conversations on educational innovation and digital learning. A symbolic presentation of the book was held with representatives from Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Curtin University Malaysia, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), ICATS University College, and UITM Samarahan, underscoring the collaborative and regional significance of the publication.

Officiating the launch, YB Dato Sri Hajah Fatimah Abdullah congratulated Professor Ida, the late Dr Augustus Raymond Segar, and all contributing authors on the publication. In her speech, she noted that the book addresses one of the most pressing questions in education today: how technology can be harnessed to create more inclusive, equitable, and meaningful opportunities for learners, while ensuring that digital transformation remains grounded in human values. She also highlighted the relevance of the book to Sarawak’s aspirations for inclusive development, digital transformation, and social impact.

Professor Ida acknowledged his enduring contributions as collaborator, educator, technologist, and creative practitioner, noting that the publication carries forward the conversations, ideas, and shared commitment that underpinned their work together.
The publication reflects Swinburne Sarawak’s continuing contribution to educational innovation, research excellence, and globally relevant scholarship, while reinforcing the importance of ensuring that technology in education remains inclusive, ethical, and people-centred. By bringing together international perspectives and partner institutions from across the higher education and knowledge ecosystem, the launch underscored the value of collaboration in shaping the future of learning.
