Work Integrated Learning Placement Unit (WILPU)

As a bachelor’s degree student, upgrade your degree by registering interest in a 3-month full time WILPU in a professional organisation, corporation, or an institution. You are eligible to take up the WILPU after you have achieved a minimum of 150 credit points or completed a minimum of 12 units of study in your degree.

At Swinburne Sarawak, we are offering the following Work Integrated Learning Placement Units:

BUS20015: Work Integrated Learning Placement – Business (3 months)
DDD20034: Work Integrated Learning Placement – Design (3 months)
NPS20008: Work Integrated Learning Placement – Science (3 months)
ICT20016: Work Integrated Learning Placement – Information and Communication Technology (3 months)

Completing a WILPU that we are offering is equivalent to completing two elective units or a total of 25 credit points at Swinburne Sarawak.

You will start building your ‘curriculum vitae’ or ‘resume’ with real life industrial experience when you commence with the Work Integrated Learning Placement unit. Benefits of learning ‘on the job’ while studying at Swinburne include:

  • Learning from your industry supervisors
  • Guidance received from your academic advisors
  • Applying your knowledge and skill in real work environment
  • Developing your professional skills, employability skills and capabilities
  • Getting paid by your industry hosts while earning academic credit
  • Opportunities to enhancing networking skills with your peers, colleagues, and prospective future employers
Your placement will combine hands-on learning in industry with academic submissions, workplace reflection and feedback from your host organisation.

Most students undertake their placements in the third year of their degree, so you will want to map out your electives as soon as you can and register for a placement at least 3 months before your preferred start date. Students are expected to find your own internship host and opportunities.

At Swinburne Sarawak, there are two intakes a year for the WILPU:

First Intake: Register in March to start in the Winter Term (June to August)
Second Intake: Register in August to start in the Summer Term (December to February)
