KUCHING – The Future ICT Coders 2021 event will offer a sneak peek to the future of the job market and the skills necessary for jobs of the future related to the area of information communication technology (ICT).

Comprising free workshop and competition, the event will be held online via Zoom across two weekends on 26 and 27 June, and 3 and 4 July 2021.

According to ‘The Future of Jobs Report’ in 2020 published by the World Economic Forum, the majority of the top 10 growing job demands in the United States by 2025 are linked to the area of ICT such as artificial intelligence (AI), data science, cybersecurity, and software development. This forecast can paint a similar future globally and locally here in Malaysia. As nations are gearing towards the post-pandemic future, students and job seekers are anxious to adapt to the new approach to work.

The event is aimed at secondary school students in Form 3, 4 and 5 as well as SPM school-leavers. Participants can choose from four tracks namely AI, data science, cybersecurity and software development where they will be able to learn real-world skills that are fundamental in building a career in any of the four tracks.

No prior knowledge is required to join the event. Participants will also be able to experience being part of fun and interesting projects that promote learning guided by trainers from Swinburne School of ICT who will teach the fundamental concepts and offer valuable hands-on experience.

Leading the AI track is trainer Dr Joel Than Chia Ming who is currently researching on the application of AI for medical image analysis, while for data science track, the participants will be trained by Dr Vong Wan Tze who is experienced in the applications of data analysis and who has worked on the statistical modelling in clinical epidemiology as well as literature-based knowledge extraction and discovery.

An expert in cybersecurity, cyber threat detection and prevention, and information security, Ts. Dr Kelvin Yong Sheng Chek will facilitate the cybersecurity track. For the software development track, it will be led by Fu Swee Tee, an experienced lecturer who is currently working on real-time vision-based accident recognition research.

In line with the growing market of these jobs of the future, Swinburne Sarawak offers a three-year Bachelor of Computer Science programme with majors in software development, cybersecurity, Internet of Things (IOT), data science, and AI.
