Exciting activities await visitors at Swinburne’s Open Day, 23 and 24 March

KUCHING Staff and students of Swinburne, as well as members of the public can look forward to participate in a range of exciting activities at the upcoming Swinburne’s Open Day to be held on 23 and 24 March 2019, from 10am to 5pm daily.

Located at Jalan Simpang Tiga, Swinburne’s Kuching campus is an Australian university with the main campus based in Melbourne, Australia. It is highly ranked in prestigious world academic ranking lists where Swinburne is ranked Top 3% globally (QS World University Rankings 2019), Top 50 under 50 (QS World University Rankings 2019) and Top 40 in the world for Art & Design (QS World Rankings of University by Subject 2018).

The Swinburne’s Open Day event is open to all, particularly SPM, STPM and UEC school-leavers who are looking to pursue an Australian tertiary education locally at an affordable price. Those who are interested to know about Swinburne’s Diploma of Business programme are also invited to attend. Admission to the event and all other activities is free.

Among the main attractions of the event are Course Counselling, Faculty Showcase, Student Club Showcase and Career Forum. The counselling session is an opportunity not to be missed for prospective students to obtain first-hand information from the university’s academic staff and course counsellors about its course options in business, science, design, engineering, information technology and multimedia.

Showcasing the Faculties’ strength in teaching and learning, the Faculty Showcase will provide visitors insights into current students’ projects based on the key development and learning areas, as well as previous works completed in collaboration with the industry. In addition, students will also conduct simple science experiments, showcase poster presentation, display 3D modelling of parts and components, demonstrate the use of robot and invite visitors to take part in interactive games.

Meanwhile, featuring 10 student clubs, visitors can get to know more about students’ co-curricular activities and achievements through the Student Club Showcase. Another exciting highlight is the highly anticipated Career Forum on 23 March that will focus on the theme ‘Preparing for Jobs of the Future’. In the forum, speakers from Sarawak SHELL Berhad, GRAB Malaysia, Electrolux Group, JobStreet.com Malaysia, VIU Malaysia, Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre and other organisations will touch on the workforce needs of the future, variety of fields of work, desirable graduate attributes and future of work.

Other interesting highlights include Scholarship and Financial Aid booth, Guided Campus Tour, Career Personality Test, Art Market, Advanced Photography Workshop by Canon, Colouring Contest, DOTA Competition, and Meet and Greet with HITZ, MY and ERA Announcers.

Prospective students are advised to bring along relevant documents for on-the-spot application purposes. These include identification card and birth certificate (Malaysian students) or original passport (international students), original academic transcripts with grading system (SPM/GCE O-Level/UEC/STPM/GCE A-Level/Diploma or equivalent qualification), and original English language proficiency test results (MUET, IELTS, TOEFL or equivalent qualification). Those who meet the entry criteria will receive an offer letter on the same day from the university.

Application is now open for enrolment into 2019 Foundation and Diploma intakes with classes commencing on 8 April.

To ease students’ financial burden, Swinburne offers scholarships and bursaries such as the Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Scholarship, Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Awards, Academic Progression Scholarship, Dean’s Outstanding Youth Award, Siblings Rebate and Bumiputera Financial Scheme. Additionally, prospective Diploma students are also eligible to apply for the Diploma Pathway Bursary, Diploma Entrance Bursary and Diploma Pathway Scholarship.

External scholarships and financial aids from Yayasan Sarawak, Sarawak Energy, Astro and Biasiswa YB Menteri Pendidikan Tinggi are also available for Foundation students.

Swinburne’s overall Graduate Employability Rate is approximately 92% where graduates are hired within six months after completing their studies. The university is also currently ranked in JobStreet.com Top 10 Preferred Private University in Malaysia.
