Find out about Swinburne’s July Foundation course and more at Open Day events

KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus will be organising a series of Swinburne Open Day events nationwide, an opportunity not to be missed for prospective students to meet and talk to the university’s Faculty members and course counsellors about its courses.

The first leg of the series will start in East Malaysia on 30 June at RH Hotel, Sibu, followed by 1 July at Hyatt Regency Kinabalu Hotel, Kota Kinabalu; 7 July at the Swinburne Sarawak Campus, Kuching; and 8 July at Pullman Hotel, Miri. All events in East Malaysia will take place from 10.00am to 5.00pm.

The Open Day events continue in West Malaysia on 22 July at KSL Hotel, Johor Bahru; 28 July at WEIL Hotel, Ipoh; and 29 July at G Hotel, Penang. All events will be from 12.00pm to 5.00pm.

The events are open to members of the public, particularly future students who are seeking to pursue a high quality Australian education locally as well as high school leavers who had recently received their SPM results in March and are keen to start their Foundation studies in July.

At the events, the university’s academic staff and course counsellors will be on hand to guide the students and their parents on the course options available in areas such as business, science, design, engineering, information technology and multimedia. They can also do free on-the-spot application, career and personality test and get advice related to scholarships and financial aids. The Kuching Open Day includes a guided tour of the campus.

Prospective students are advised to bring along their identification card and birth certificate (Malaysian students) or original passport (international students), original academic transcripts with grading system (SPM/GCE O-Level/UEC/STPM/GCE A-Level/Diploma or equivalent qualification), and original English language proficiency test results (MUET, IELTS, TOEFL or equivalent qualification) for on-the-spot application purposes. Those who meet the entry criteria will receive an offer letter on the same day from the university.

On a related matter, students will be pleased to know that three schemes are currently being offered by the university to ease their financial burden. The three schemes are the Swinburne Scholarship 3A-5A, Swinburne Academic Grant (Kuching) and Swinburne Transition Grant (Outside Kuching). Swinburne Sarawak’s global rankings, high graduate employment rates and location in the city centre makes the university a top choice for students from around the world interested in obtaining an Australian degree at a fraction of the cost. The courses at the Sarawak campus are undifferentiated from the Melbourne campus and students who complete their degrees here receive the same testamur.

Swinburne Sarawak’s Graduate Employability Rate is approximately 100% for a number of engineering and business courses, with an overall Graduate Employability rate of 93% where a majority of the remaining 7% of graduates surveyed continued their studies with a postgraduate degree or set out to launch a startup.

Swinburne recently debuted in the Top 50 of the QS World University Rankings for the world’s top universities under the age of 50, ranking at 45 in the 2019 rankings. Overall, Swinburne improved its position in 2017 and climbed 34 places to 387th to be ranked in the top 400 universities globally according to the QS World University Rankings 2018.

Earlier this year, its School of Design was recognised as one of the best in the world by the QS World University Rankings by Subject. It is ranked at equal number 40 for Art and Design, improving by more than ten places since 2017.
