International conference opens, Swinburne Sarawak and SAINS sign agreements

KUCHING – Chief Minister of Sarawak Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Adenan bin Haji Satem this morning officially opened the “19th International Conference on Transformative Science and Engineering, Business and Social Innovation” at a leading hotel here today.

The June 15 to 19 conference themed “Smart innovative societies”, is organised by the Society for Design and Process Science (SDPS), and hosted by Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus.

Adenan was represented by Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Second Minister of Finance, and Minister of Local Government and Community Development.

About 120 delegates from Canada, Europe, Japan, South America, Turkey, the UK and USA are attending the event while keynote speakers from the academia and industry comprise those from Japan, Malaysia, Norway, The Netherlands and USA.

Papers and technical sessions on applied science and technology, renewable energy, software engineering, ICT entrepreneurship, effective healthcare, and sustainable development will be delivered and discussed.

Present at the opening were Fellow of SDPS and President of Texas A&M University-Commerce Dr Dan Jones, SDPS President Dr Sang C. Suh, Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS) CEO Dato Teo Tien Hiong, Sarawak Energy Bhd General Manager of R&D Dr Chen Shiun who represented the company CEO Datuk Torstein Dale Sjotveit, and Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Swinburne Sarawak, Professor Anthony Cahalan.

SDPS, founded in Austin, Texas, USA, in 1995 is a non-profit organization formed to provide an international home for advanced integrative thinkers at a professional level.

Swinburne Sarawak and SAINS signed two memorandums of agreement at the conference. They are on “High performance network video recorder and video management system”, and “Framework for effective and sustainable rural ICT adoption in Sarawak through leveraging community informatics and in-situ human capital development”.

The first agreement is to develop a high performance network video recorder that will be able to acquire and store up to 100 channels of H.264 surveillance video feeds in full resolution simultaneously as well as real time streaming of live surveillance video of up to 25 channels.

The second is to develop a framework that comprises methodologies and analytical methods adopted from or based on the Rural ICT Guided Home-based Technopreneur (RIGHT) program.
