Politeknik Kuching and Swinburne Sarawak discuss collaboration

KUCHING –Politeknik Kuching Sarawak and Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus held a meeting to discuss the possibility for collaboration, recently.

The proposed collaboration will focus on the articulation of Politeknik diploma graduates to degree courses, English language programs for its students and the training of lecturers from the polytechnic.

The meeting was held between Datuk Dr Arshad Bin Kassim, Director, Industrial Liaison, and Graduate Employability and Alumni, Department of Politechnic Education, Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education and Datu Dr Haji Julaihi Haji Bujang, Director for Government and External Liaison of Swinburne Sarawak, at the Australian branch campus.

The two institutions agreed to set up a committee to work out the details of the collaboration.

Also discussed were ideas on improving the employability of graduates.

Politeknik Kuching Sarawak is located in Matang, about 30 minutes from Kuching city. It is one of many polytechnics in the country set up to cater to the demands of more semi-professionals in the engineering, commerce and service sectors.

Swinburne Sarawak is the only international branch campus of Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne.

At the meeting Arshad was accompanied by Clara Ong, the Campus Director for Politeknik Kuching Sarawak.

Also present were Swinburne Sarawak’s Registrar and Director of Student Operation Division, Haji Hussain Bin Taiban, and Director of Business Development and Communication Division, James Ho.
