Port and Offshore Geotechnics Seminar at Swinburne Sarawak

KUCHING – Dr C F Leung, a professor with the Department of Civil Engineering, National University of Singapore, will be conducting a one-day seminar entitled “Port and Offshore Geotechnics”.

The seminar, jointly organized by Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (Sarawak Branch) and Swinburne University of Technology (Sarawak Campus), will be held at the university’s campus on Friday, 30 July.

Professional engineers, consultants, contract administrators and employers of both private and public firms are encouraged to attend.

Professor Leung will provide an overview of selected port geotechnical works including oiled deck wharf front, gravity caisson wharf retaining structure and caisson breakwaters. Design considerations that are different from onshore geotechnical problems will also be highlighted. This will be supported by case studies illustrating key features and concepts in the analysis and design.

Professor Leung’s research interest included offshore geotechnics, soil-structure interaction, water front structures and centrifudge modelling.

Currently a technical committee member of the ISO Jack-up Foundation Panel, Dr Leung is also an international advisory member of OMAE conference since 2008, a technical program committee member of ISOPE since 2007 and serves as Chairman of ISSMGE Technical Committee TC2 on Geotechnical Physical Modelling.

Professor Leung has published numerous papers in international journals and delivered keynote lectures on offshore geotechnics, soil-structure interaction and water front structures, amongst others. He has served on the editorial board of several international journals including International Journal on Physical Modelling in Geotechnics.

The one-day seminar is organized by the School of Engineering, Computing and Science of Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus and is open to the public.
