Swinburne Sarawak introduces new range of scholarships

KUCHING – High achieving students who enrol into programs at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus can look forward to being awarded one of its newly-revised scholarship schemes.

The scholarships are to be awarded to students whose SPM, STPM, UEC or equivalent results meet the selection criteria when they enrol into the university’s diploma, foundation and degree programs.

The scholarships are given as annual tuition fee rebates. Depending on the scheme, this ranges from 15% to 50%.

“The university has been awarding scholarships since shortly after it started operations. However many will find its current range, approved by the management and introduced early this year, to be more attractive and comprehensive as it now covers the entire duration of any program,” said Professor Helmut Lueckenhausen, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief executive of Swinburne Sarawak.

Under the revised scheme a student with 6As and above in SPM who enrols into foundation studies may apply for the Swinburne Sarawak Academic Excellence Scholarship (Foundation Entrance).

For students who satisfy the criteria while in foundation, the scholarship is extended to cover their degree studies.

Similarly, a STPM student who meets the requirements is eligible for the Swinburne Sarawak Academic Excellence Scholarship (Degree Entrance) once enrolled into a degree program.

Students who do well academically and had been actively involved in co-curricular activities in secondary school may apply for the Swinburne Sarawak Sports and Leadership Scholarship.

Meanwhile the Swinburne Sarawak Pathway Scholarship is awarded to those who transition from one level of study to the next, for instance from a diploma or foundation program to a degree program.

Foundation or degree students who score four high distinctions in a full term load stand a good chance of achieving the PVC Academic Excellence Award.

As well as these scholarships, made available by the University, there are others offered by JPA, Daiken Corporation, Sarawak Timber Association (STA), Tunku Abdul Rahman, and Tabung Amanah Bakun.

Scholarships for Bachelor of Design (Graphic Design) and Bachelor of Science (Biotechnology) are offered via The Star Education Fund.

Those interested in applying for study loans from Yayasan Sarawak, PTPTN, MARA and Sarawak Higher Education Fund may also approach the university for assistance.

More information may be obtained from Swinburne Sarawak at 082-415 353, or by visiting the university during its Pre-U Open Days from 10am to 5pm, on 19 and 20 March.
